Hi guys. Finally found me a 60 gig PS3. Got it. What can I do with it other than gaming and blu rays? I've not hooked it up online yet. Probably will tonight or in the morning. Do I need to worry about updates messing up the backwards compatability? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Just thought of another question. Can you run CD-r and DVD-rs on this thing?

I'd assume you can run CD's and DVD's. As for games though, seeing how it IS marketed as a console. Definately pick up Warhawk, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Assassin's Creed (if you haven't already gotten it for 360).

One more question. What, if any, accessories are essential, other than extra controllers? Thanks guys.

I enjoyed Folklore quite a bit. Once you get online there are lots of demos to check out especially Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank.

My kids LOVE watching slide shows of the family pictures saved on the HDD while listening to music.

I hav played CD-R and copied to the HDD with no problem. Not sure about DVD-R check the manual.

    Congrats enjoy.

I posfed from my PS3 BTW :thumb

CD-R and DVD-Rs should work if they have compatible image, audio, and video formats on them.

KOOL! Welcome to the club man! lol Definitely get internet up and download all the great demos before you go buying $60 games. And watch out for fanboys!(AHEM,SonRay, Ahem)j/k The PS3can pretty much play anything, nothing I have tried has let me down.

For movies I have found the Blu Ray Remote to be very very helpful. Playing movies with the Sixaxis was just a pain.

Another nice thing you can do is use a camera's memory card to play a slideshow of pictures you have taken. Ive used that more times that I thought I would since I got the system.

    Also, congrats on you purchase!

Just get the remote, and an extra controller. Oh, and you might want to consider a charge station for the controllers(I got sick of cords sticking out of the front of my cabinet).

Other than that, don't really need anything else, except games.

This is all good advice. The only thing I would have to add, is when you get online start the folding@home thing. It is a good feeling to do medical research with the PS3.

    QFT.

You can browse the internet with the PS3 if you are so inclined as well. You can also stream music from your PC. You should be good to go on backwards compatability. 60gb, along with the 20gb, is the best PS3 to get as far as backwards compatability.

I wouldnt reccomend another sixaxis just yet, as it will be wasted money in a few months with the dualshock 3 on the way.

I don't want to hijack your thread here, but I was also wondering what are some of the best games out now for the PS3. Any suggestions?

Are you serious? You can roll in a Delorean and the A-team van?

I so need this game, it needs to go on sale for like $40 or something and then I am scoring it.

IMO Current must own games for the PS3 are: Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and Heavenly Sword. Actually, Heavenly Sword is more like a *must borrow* game because it doesn't take that long to complete.

And of course Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band.

there are a a few new cars, those are the 2 worth noting. the a-team van is pretty much the a-team van, but the dalorean is as close as they could get it to bttf without actually making it the same car. it even has the 4 flame trails when you use the boost.
