The post is fine, but the thinly veiled remark isn't ;)

    How amusing.

As for the news, I am interested, but after wave has failed to make... waves... I wonder if this can or will. They also used to run Orkut, which was terrrrrible.

    LOL no.

Google want all your data and want to horde it forever, its one of the worst kept secrets on the internets and folks are still stupid enougth to think that they are everybody's cool tech friend that gives them free software out of altruism.

Aside from that, I can't imagine that this is going to be any more sucessful then thier other attempts at social and collaboration platforms.

Well, since it's more of a GMail extention, and loads of people use and like GMail, I can see this really picking up steam.

Orkut really was utter crap, wasn't it. I signed up and visited it a handful of times before I forgot it even existed. And I'm still trying to work out what benefit Wave would have for me, despite having had it for ages now.

    I'm the same.
I have Wave but have never used it or see the point of it just now.

Well... the thing with Wave, in my view... is that it could entirely replace GMail.

But since GMail is already more well known and used, it's hard to compete with your own product...

Wave is in a difficult spot.

The problem is that Google want to breach two fortified markets (social networking and group collaboration) at the same time by creating something revolutionary instead of just building solid platforms that do stuff that people actually want.

They could have built a good social network aggregator, developed Google Docs into a Sharepoint competitor and maybe have found a way to sensibly bridge the two by now. Instead they've spent the time and money developing a bunch of stuff that either dies at the feet of established players or only finds an audience with web trendies.

Google has likely already mined my personal info from the internet and my Gmail account so why do I need to repeat it for them?

People should directly go to Google Buzz.

    Google Buzz

You'd have to have a GMail account, though.

Just so that people get an idea for this.

Then again, they're still working on the roll out.

I'm fine with Facebook and Twitter, and unless all my family & friends suddenly decided to quit FB for Buzz, I doubt I'll use this new social networking site from Google.

I've got Buzz running on my GMail account...

But as soon as Leo Laporte started Buzzing...

Ugh, it's such a mess right now. Needs to be cleaned up before I even start thinking about using it.

I'm sticking to Twitter for now.
