Village mob thwarts Google Street View car - Times Online

I always wondered how they got those pictures. Now I know, but I can't say I really care if they're taking photos of my place. I guess it would only piss me off if they didn't like folks taking pictures of their complex in CA.

Really, why does Google need to take photographs of residential streets? Did they even ask permission first?

Why should they ask permission? What possible problem can you have with there being a photograph of your house on the internet?

    People are idiots.

How does this, in any way, facilitate burglary? Or should we all be contacting publishers of maps to remove our streets from their publications as it also facilitates burglaries.

"Look, they can plot a route to the very street I live on! I am outraged."

    Morons, the lot of them.

Alternatively potential burglars could, you know, just walk or drive along the streets themselves. People are thinking too hard about this, your average burglar is an opportunist, not a mask wearing, swag bag carrying, stripey sweatered, mustache twirling mastermind.

I know most computers have Microsoft Windows, but they're not the sort of Windows you can climb through. I wonder if this is where the confusion lies?

A burglar who case the joint from google is likely too stupid or lazy to actually break in. Low Res, longshots of a street are no danger or privacy violation to anyone but mad hermits and nutters.

Unless you are masturbating in your front window and are afraid Google caught you...

that is why i added that it was their feeling.

I could drive down the street myself and look out and see potential targets then break in. I don't need street view to do so. Plus the resolution isn't that great.

Afraid? I've been doing that for weeks now, but the Google car never arrives. I'm bloody knackered. It's exhausting treading water for eight hours a day.

i don't see the big deal. it's not like they're broadcasting every person's name and phone number in correlation with potential internet user id's and passwords under each picture.

They already came by my house. Hell, I'm actually outside working on a car with my uncle in their shots! I saw it and thought "that's cool", then moved along with life.
