What happens when someone knows how to hack the software and gets you in a accident? whos fault is that?
I rather drive myself and know it was my fault but then again they are stupid drivers that you can avoid. LOL

pretty much. Everyone will say they'd sooner be in control themselves, but when they need to get home at 3 in the morning, it'll be a different story. It goes without saying that this will save thousands of lives. And pretty soon people will find they'd rather text-message, websurf or catch some sleep on the morning commute too.

I imagine the first generations will be a little slower and more cautious than strictly necessary, but when people become accustomed to it, I think it may eventually be possible for auto-driving cars to communicate with each other and negotiate intersections without the need for traffic lights.

I'm surprised by this, but also enthusiastic about it. Finally, the FUTURE IS COMING. Also, the title was a bit misleading.

But that would mean quite a few police officers would be out of a job, especially in my neighborhood. :p

But I like this idea. Now if NASA could just get off their asses and start colonizing the moon...

    Seriously?

Call me old fashioned, but I kind of like driving manually.

The whole idea sounds impressive and helpful, I just hope Google executes their plans well. You'd have to do something about viruses and hackers. It's not that big of a deal if one person gets a virus on their laptop, that's their problem. But when a bug shuts down your car on the highway, well...

so wow google is great an all but I'd rather drive my own ride thanks. I'd also feel a lot better if the car next to me was drove by a jack ass who's a terrible driver. Rather than a machine. I just can't trust something like that (unless its a real autobot maybe then)

Haha, I actually read The Rat's post with a Captain Fanzone voice in my mind :lol

Sounds promising..sure, right now we might all be thinking that it could be dangerous..someone could hack your car, or a program error might get you into a crash or whatever..but just take a look at how many accidents we create ourselves driving manually.

This is good news for us. No more drunk drivers/texting drivers/aggressive drivers/elderly drivers/female drivers/joyriders/grand theft autos/all other people who can't drive for shit. :)

Well, I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords. After all, the sooner we have autonomous vehicles, the sooner we can have flying cars.

Seems like this isn't really tackling any existing problems, buy bypassing them. And potentially creating new ones. Worst case, if these AI drivers are networked, hacking and virtual terrorism seem like real threats to this operation. Imagine if you no longer have to worry about hacking street grids, you can hack the cars (not that hacking street grids is a major concern right now). All I'm saying is, in the wrong hands, this is a new and very direct method of control.

On second though, seems pretty grim, don't it? :)

Seem's like they're doing it for safety reasons, before one of the drivers to their Streetview cars gets killed. There's alot of people that don't like those cars lol

I can see a lot of problems coming from this. Teens could easily abuse it.
