Soccor moms won and killed "suger cereals".

Classic mascots like tony the tiger, toucan sam, lucky charms, Etc will be dropped for good!

It's the end of a era for those who grew up with these commercials in the 80s!

I hate soccor/brat moms. Oh well at least they'll still be making the cereal...I hope.

I guess that will stop the kids under 12 from using their vast amounts of disposable income to buy sugary cereals.:rolleyes2

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. This is just another example of parents who choose to basically not raise their children. They feel that instead of telling their kids no when they want a particular kind of cereal, they blame the companies for putting cartoon characters on the box.

    Pathetic.

NO! Man, what a way to brush off the responsibility of parenthood on someone else. It's the parents feeding the kids the sugary cereals, not the companies.

And yes, it IS an end to an era. I grew up with Toucan Sam, Tony the Tiger, Lucky Charms guy, Count Chocula,etc.......man, at least I still have my TFs.

That would wipe out almost every line of action figures then. I guess boys(and girls who play with action figures too) would have to start playing with dolls. lol

So they're retiring the characters and everything, or am I understanding it wrong? :redface2:

Maybe I'm not reading it correctly, but:

"The advertising agreement does not apply to marketing characters Kellogg owns, like Tony the Tiger, but it does apply to characters the food company licenses, like the cartoon figure Shrek, said Susan Linn, co-founder of the Campaign For A Commercial-Free Childhood."

    Have fun, all!!!

I just don't want some goofy "your food makes our kids fat" attitude to spell the end for classic characters like Tony. It is indeed pretty irrelevant, but I guess it's just nostalgia tugging at me, I don't want to see stuff like that die.

For the love of god man, seriously what the fuck?

Eveyone should know that shit is bad for you, and the parents are the ones who even buy the cereal in the first place, why change the marketing campaigns to suite a few hypersensitive bitches?

The solution is - DON'T BUY THE SHIT - and if your kids beg for it because of the commercials - FUCKING TELL THEM NO. That's what I do and it works fine, we only buy the sugar loaded stuff on very rare occasions, it's sort of like a treat that way.

These damn soccer moms act like they are unable to tell their children no, and it makes me sick.

QFT. The mom who acts like this is an issue is the only reason it is an issue in her household.

There's no doubt it's asinine that the typical "soccer mom" can actually get away with making a company raise their kids properly. But hey, they've done it with schools, so why not?

I'm just sayin' that I don't think Tony the Tiger or Toucan Sam are going anywhere for a while.

    Have fun!!!

Post however, has no such agreement, yes?

Kids don't eat breakfast enough as it is, this could create a problem.

    Here, from Yahoo news:

So from reading the Times article, advertising products such as Frosted Flakes and Oreos to kids is coming to same taboo as tobacco companies advertising their products to same audience?

At least Tony the Tiger promoted and active lifestyle. He was always doing some type of sport related thing.
