As some of you may know, I have an extreme fondness of American muscle cars specifically the Mustang. Before my current screen name, 03Mach1, I was 01Cobra. With that said, the cost of owning/operating my current 2010 Mustang GT was just too much to justify so I traded her in today for...

    a 2012 4 Door Volkswagen GTI.

So far, so good. I'll post a few pics tomorrow. Any GTI owners/fans out there??

She may not rumble like a V8, but a Golf GTi is not lacking in power, plus they corner like Go-Karts or so I'm told.

They're still fun, just a different fun to muscle car fun.

what were the costs that made you get rid of the mustang? gas, insurance, or something else? I can't think of what could make it worth selling the car and buy a new one.

Uh... Isn't it a rule that you're not supposed to tell people that you had a previous account for whatever reason?

The payment is just shy of $150 less each month. Gas and insurance will be at least $100, if not more, less. So $250 less per month minimum. Not to mention my old term was 72 months and the current loan is 60.

No worries. My screen name was changed by a mod. They used to allow that every once in a blue moon. ;)

If money were no object, I'd be trading up to a Shelby. But since it is and I'd like to own a home some day soon, I could no longer justify $700-$800 a month ($550 car payment, $100 insurance, $100+ in gas) to drive a car. So it was either be a responsible husband/adult and still have an enjoyable ride or continue pissing away that much money each month just to 'be a man'. I chose option 'A'.

But thanks anyway for the words of encouragement.

I'll get her back one day...

Did I mention the GTI has paddle shifters??

VW Golf's are one of the best cars in it's category, and here in the UK it is very popular and gets consistent high ratings. You'll love the car over that plastic interior junk ;)

Hey, I didnt do it to u, you did it to yourself. From what u are saying, you put next to nothing down on the car and got saddled with a big payment. 550 * 72 = 39,600

    MY TTA=cash, 91 Formula=cash, 91 GTA=cash, 93 Skylark=cash, 96 SL=cash

Cash is king, no payment and no exorbitant insurance in that case either.

Now, you shoulda found a mileage beater and bought something reliable without a payment, then go Fox body shopping and still have something fun in the end.

Doing what you've done is the choice of a man, putting the needs of your whole family above your own wants.

A V8 with two doors is a midlife crisis, a V8 with four doors is a well equipped "family car"

    Like so:

This one is supercharged, making it very well equipped, but still a "family car"

    This?

It's the 2011 FPV (Ford Performance Vehicle) Ford Falcon GT Concept. It's an Australian car, which is probably why you didn't know what it is.
