    Finally got good news
I got my disability stuff approved today.
What a nightmare and for a while I thought they weren't going to approve me.
I was so scared because I can't work so I didn't know what to do.
I will take this good news and let it get me by for a while.

Awesome. Glad to hear you got approved. My wife is trying to get on disability because of her chronic back problems. 13+ years of taking care of and lifting folks in group homes just plain f'd up her back. She's tried finding jobs in other fields, even has a degree in psychology, but no one will hire because of her work background.

Is that from STRS? You finally heard back from them? That's definitely good news and I hope the start of things finally going well for you. You've been through a LOT recently.

thank you thank you thank you and yes from STRS
So those applying through the state, this isn't the same thing (teachers can't apply for state disability since we don't pay into SSI)
I started this process in late February as in requesting the materials and filling them out. THe longest part is getting the medical records and getting a doctors appointment to write the letter

Yeah that time frame doesn't surprise me at all. Glad to hear it was approved though and my understanding is that they backdate that to when the app was received so you could be getting back pay for that.

they mentioned back rate but I wasn't sure if that was from the date of approval or the date of when my doctor's letter was dated.

Grats. I had to go through getting SSDI a few years ago. It took a bit but thankfully I have great doctors who were more than willing go get all my records as soon as I asked for them so it wasn't too much of a hassle, but it did take a little time.

Wow! I join to the congratulations, but in our country it is not so...
Subsidies are very small for people with disabilities, even free ride on public transport is absent, not to mention the free (or low prices) medicines. Disrespect from physicians (like the disabled is useless). And most importantly - the work can not be found... When my father had a heart attack in 49 years, we struggled for that he had not received a disability. He has higher education, his work is not heavy. If he lost it, we would become beggars!

    According to the disability guide:

"If approved, your disability benefit will go into effect on whichever of the following dates occurs later:
    * The first day of the month in which we receive your completed application.
    * The day after you last day of compensation, including sick leave and subdifferential pay" (<= Which basically means your last day of work)

You also entitled to 10% more for your dependent son.

yup I know about getting more for my son. My last day of work was May 25th. and my last paycheck was may 31st
I am pretty sure my completed application went through in March

So does that mean I get compensated May 1st through now?
