So my birthday's coming up in a week, and I'm kinda-sorta asking my parents for an MP3 player. The problem is, I'm not really sure what I want.

I mean, I know that at most I need 4 GB (my sister has a lot more music than I do, and she's barely filled half of her 4 GB iPod Nano). I want something with a screen so I can search through my music, but don't want or need video capabilities (if I want that, I'll get a PSP).

But I have no clue who makes reliable MP3 players at an affordable price. I'm not expecting my parents to spend more than $100, so iPods are out (besides, I really don't want one). Anyone have any recommendations?

I have had two Zen Micros and now an iPod. I think both are good. I say go with your gut.

Have a iPod Shuffle and love it. Choose whatever MP3 player brand suits you the best.

Thanks for the recommendations. I called my parents earlier today and let them know about the Zen, particularly that practically-a-bargain 8 GB Zen V at Circuit City. They said they'll look at the options and discuss it.

I love my Sony Walkman. Great video playback, and the music sounds clean, and it has a Radio tuner to boot.
