So I went to Akihabara (which is supposed to be a geek mecca) yesterday surprised by how few stores there carry TFs. It was mostly Ulrta man, some power rangers type stuff, and naked animengirls statues.

I was shoked by how much american releases they carried. Not United or Henkei, but universe and generations.

TRU was also surprisingly limited, they only have a few shelves and about 9ft per store.

So does anyone have any tips, or favorite haunts in Tokyo?

Hey I've been up there twice this week, last time was 2 days ago. In akihabara go to the 8th floor of mandarake, a place called figure hobby, liberty hobby, outside of electric town's train exit that whole complex of 5 floors is good. Hope this helps as I know it can be troublesome for someone to find exactly what they way but, these stores will carry everything you've ever wanted so hope you find stuff that you like.

Mandarake is on opposite side of the Mcdonalds and the Donner kebab place. Keep walking down and just keep looking left, where you should see it. If you have trouble I know that was crappy directions just ask for Mandarake. Good luck, and hope you find what you want there's so much there, make sure you constantly check other stores before you buy because many times another store will either have what you want higher or lower then the other.

Oh man, how I wish I could walk out of a toy store and see a Kamen Rider OOO display, while clutching a recently-purchased Reissue Predaking.

You're not kidding! Living in JApan is EXPENSIVE!

Im off all week, and since Im new here Im doing a ton of traveling. Tomorrow Im heading to Sunshine city. I think theres a TRU there. I'll take some pics if there is anything cool, but the others I went to are also clogged with TFA, and I didnt see any of theose candy boxes.

BTW does anyone know if TRU carries MPs?

Personally, I haven seen any United figures yet, just generations, and animated, and they usually run from JPY1800 JPY2200 for deluxes ($21.50 - 26.30), all the way to Y5700 ($68.20) for Leaders

Tru will only have mp movie starscream. Tru here is currently carrying autobot alliance and tfa, dec 25 is when united comes out here, generations doesnt come out here unless its somewhere at akihabara and they charge $50 god knows why. Anyways anything else besides tru stuff is in akihabara and specialty shops. Hell yeah japan is expensive especially with the yen rate its so horrible right now. I advise anyone looking for anything rare or older should check out akihabara. Sometimes you find awsome prices such as 3400 yen henkei, i got encore skylinx for 2300 yen and a black zarak with no accessories for an amazing 14700 yen.

Dude I think this may help you,
I have done a lot of toy hunting in Japan and created this list of stores when I got back to UK in May, partly for my own reference.
They are mapped on google as well.

    Japan trip! « ukBrawn's blog

The best place in Tokyo centre I have labled as Transformers Heaven on the map. This is the mecca, 7 floors of Hobby shops. Some second hand. I have got loads here. Just realised this is the same place XxGeck0xX referred to.

There is also one for Osaka, which has some awesome stores.

Generally, Takara TFs cost 2 - 2.5 times what the Hasbro equivalent does.

I agree. I hate sunshine city. I was there with friends so I was stuck there for 3 hours while the girls were clothing shopping and TRU didn't have anything I wanted (back in Dec of 2005).

I'm hooked on TFAs right now! I wish i were there!

I don't think they carry the new masterpiece sleeping convoy (I just checked their Japanese web site). TRUs don't carry old line of toys either so you won't find MP-04, MP-03, etc.
