Does anyone know of some good free antivirus programs? My girlfriend needs to get rid of Norton which is driving her insane. So I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a good program out there. I already suggest Spybot S and D for all her anti-spyware needs.

Yup, i used to work for Microsoft PC security and before MS developed Windows Live One Care we used to suggest AVG to customers, it an excellent antivirus that updates for free. Its only downfall is that if for some reason it was to go south on your computer you would find it difficult to get support to have it removed. Luckily however in the years that i worked i had not seen it cause conflict on many systems. The systems that it did have a conflict with it was because there was already pre-existing AV software installed, and they tried to install AVG. This can cause severe conflicts on your machine.

I use AVG, which is pretty good, and a friend of mine uses Avast, which is also pretty good. So, either of those, as everyone else above me has suggested, should work just fine.

AVG fan right here. Just recently got a laptop with Norton and it was pure crap. AVG (like on my older systems) worked right away.

AVG as well. I use AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy to compliment, but AVG really does a hell of a job intercepting stuff.

The only reason it would've deleted MSPaint is if it was corrupted by a virus. Sometimes anti-virus programs have to destroy the entire file to rid you of the virus, but with a file like that missing...I'd go ahead and re-install Windows...who knows what else might've been removed.
