I don't understand why did Beachcomber abandonned his comrades in battle and wasted time with animals, but then again he found The Golden Lagoon and he entered his arm to examin it, but when The Autobots retreated and when back to Autobot HQ he never reported it to Prime, I mean did he feaal guilty for abandoning his pals in battle?

    Thanks

Why are you trying to find logic in the G1 cartoon?

Most people here(myself included) feel this is one of the greatest G1 episodes.
To answer your question, Beachcomber always kinda kept to himself. I always liked his character.

Well, it's kind of stupid. G1 wasn't the most well written show with some really shitty episodes, so it's really hard to find any logic in it.

Yeah, true. But my original point still stands; it's pointless to try and find logic in an 80's show that existed soley to sell toys.

Why the hate!?! All Transformers have existed to sell product. Doesn't mean that some is well written or fun

Yeah, it's fun and for it's time it was well written. But if you compare it's writting to Beast Wars or any of the Transformers shows that came later, it falls flat on it's face. Also, it's comics were far superior to it as well.

Beachcomber was suffering from syphilis, and got fired from his job as a result. This created a severe case of dyslexia in the rogue gent, and he wandered away from his commitments, his pals never the wiser. The golden lagoon represents his internal struggle between the infected woman he loves and his obligation towards his naked tribe of sorcerers. He died that day, and his soul died that day too also.

what i understood is that beachcomber was tired of warfare and destruction, during battle he flees and finds the lagoon. however he knows what it means to make it public so he better keeps to himself. In the end his fears become true and the knowledge of the existence brings only destruction to wilderness. There is a moral in that, mankind destroys precious natural wonders to get advantage of them.

    Beachcomber's a hippy, man.

He does whatever he wants, man.

    He's not a soldier, man.

Also, I think some MST3K philosophy is in order: "Just remember it's just a show, and you should just sit back and relax."

While all TF shows existed to sell product, some TF shows also tried to tell logical, well constructed, meaningful stories to go along with it.

To some varying degree of success or another, depending.

G1 really was just a toy commercial and they didn't try to do that. Not until seaon 3...the one people seem to forget about.

The Golden Lagoon was written because they were foreseeing into the future of selling gold-plated Lucky Draw figures.

Plus, "G1-It makes sense if you don't think about it."

Really? I mean there's definitely far far worse episodes, but I wouldn't say that it was one of the best. I mean it was ok I guess.

:lol  thank you. I needed a good laugh.
