I am aware that a handful of transformers have this plastic defect.

So I'm wondering how do you exactly prevent it, and if you have a GPS bot that's broken how exactly do you go to fix it.

Does superglue work, or will it melt the plastic?

Or do you need a special sort of glue

i heard of stories of people using superglue to try and patch up GPS problems, but there is no way to prevent it

black zarak, G2 slingshot, G2 electro, Skyhammer-Roadblock, BWM Megatron all have this(cant think of anymore off the top of my head). superglue could work I suppose. All I know is that GPS really does put a damper on a nice bot and how you handle him. BZ and Slingshot seem to be the worst.

Avoid it by careful handling I guess. Or no handling at all.
I seem to have been very lucky with figures many have had GPS breaks on. I took a peek at some of my loose TF which have been jumbled in boxes for around a decade and the gold is still fine.

If you're after a particular figure that's also prone to GPS, see if there was ever another version/release of that mold, a repaint or something, where the gold plastic wasn't used.

My Electro is still fine, even after years clunking around loose in a box with other TF. :D

In my opinion, the best defence against GPS is to not even take the toy out of the box! :O

na, hasbro doesn't use that kind of plastic combination anymore, but for some reason legend scoponok had GPS, but i think it was a combination of rubber and stuff. so i think blazemaster will be fine

The opposite, actually. Transmetal Megatron has it, but Metals Megatron uses a different mix of colors and thus is immune.

Superglue is not a bad solution for a small break, but the problem is that the plastic will just as easily fracture elsewhere on the same part, even next to the cracks you just fixed. Unless you were to somehow carefully laminate ALL GPS-prone parts, glue will not protect or save your figure.

I bet blazemaster will have problems. hasbro does still use the gold plastic that is prone to this - protoform starscream suffers from GPS. mine is cracking all over, and it's strictly a display piece.

I'm planning on buying a complete Black Zarak next year and I'm really dreading what his gold plastic might possibly hide

I wouldnt say its stupid, but basically a bad decision, BZ's gold pieces break without even touching them.
