Like the Wii, I traded in my Xbox after Gears of War because I didn't have anything to play that wasn't an FPS....

But dawn of Mass Effect is slowly coming and I wanted your advice on what would be the better deal for someone who is on a budget. the Core system now comes with a wireless controller and is very attractive for the price... but the need of a hard drive is what's killing me (though my cousin said that the new core comes with a memory stick).

    What would you guys recommend...?

A harddrive is really a must have. What with the arcade, and various updates/content downloads, your space will be eaten up very fast.

If I was to buy a new Xbox I would probably go for the elite, it seems to give the most bang for the buck. But being on a budget, I would at least get the Pro.

The Pro is the 349 one right? Lemme check.

Even though I am far from being a Halo fan, the new Halo edition looks sweet.

The only reason I would buy the core is if I had a spare 360 HDD lying around.
You will regret not having the HDD.

I doubt you would need the Elite, though.
Plus, I know at least one of your HDMI ports is taken up by the PS3.

Wait till late November to buy one; right before Black Friday. That way you'll have better odds of getting one of the newer consoles with the 65nm, cooler chipset and quieter drive.

That would be the day you get Mass Effect, right? :)

Agreed. Although I heard it will be difficult to tell which ones have the new hardware. Unless you crack it open.

Will these quieter, cooler 360s still have the same crappy soldering techniques? I want a 360 someday as well, but not until they fix the crappy connections.

Yes, and Yes Smasher on the Mass Effect question... I think that's what I'm going to do, wait up for it.

I know I will be clocking some INSANE hours on Mass, so the last thing I want is the Red Ring. I hadn't even consider MS's fixing the newer systems.

Yeah my only HDMI slot is being taken by the PS3, but I can buy a splitter. Honestly, Component isn't that bad, and I could keep HDMI on PS3 for the upscaled games and DVDs.

I can't explain how much I've been waiting for a game like ME... Not to mention the downloadable planets and quests.

A true Galactic RPG. I hope it lives up to the hype I have created for it.

So, wait, when are we gonna get 360's that don't crash? This November? Because if that's the case, then I'm definitely gonna get me one. :D

Supposedly they are out now, but they are mixed with bad ones, like a good Willy Wonka Bar (containing the golden ticket) amidst hundreds of bad ones, but by November there should be more good ones. It willbe a nice Birthday for me. A new Xbox and the game that I have been waitin' to play on it

As I understand it, if you see a Premium system that has HDMI then that has the new form factor that is supposed to be 'Red Ring' proof.

Will this demolish the 33% failure rate for the Xbox because of the red ring?

    We'll just have to see.

I hope so... Since I was in line to buy my first one, mine received the ROD a week after buying Oblivion, so the systems were still in short supply, so mineliterally sat there for 3 weeks until my friend at Gamestop called and said that they had received new ones, so I could use my extended warranty.

That was very dissapointing, and I would hurt my Xbox if that happend during Mass Effect.

Something will be feeling a mass effect that day, and it will be my Ex Box.

    That's not the case, actually.
