Hey TFWers. I'm one of the bazillions of people laid off, and I've been given the opportunity to go back to college. Went after high school, but didn't finish. Was originally a comp. science major, but I hated it.

Well, I'm going for Drafting and Design. Part of my math carries over, but I'm scared of the Trig and Physics. :s I've not taken a math class in 13 years. I guess I'll just ride this ride and see what happens.

I know many of you are students, but any of you my age (30s) and gone back.

I went to grad school at age 26, after being in the work force for 4 years. It was tough to re-learn calculus, but it came back to me after awhile.

Good for you man. My mom is going back to college to be a nurse next year.

My dad can't find a fucking job because he's apparently "over-qualified" which is a load of bullshit. And we're barely getting by.

    Good luck man.

I was in a job that was going fucking nowhere last year, I'd been at the same desk doing the same stuff and not getting paid enough, for 2 and a half years. The longest I'd been with any company without a promotion or any movement. The soul destroying crap was really getting to me.

So, at 33 I decided to quit and enrol on a sound engineering college course. Best move I ever made, for now I'm a bit poorer, but I can see a decent future out of it. Especially as I've got a conditional offer of moving on to a higher level course next year. (A year earlier than usual)

It'll be a bit weird at first, but you'll get back into the swing of it. Also I've found having been in the working world, I have a different perspective to the teen students and can apply a lot of stuff to the real world. Oh yeah, and from the jobs I've done I understand deadlines, whilst the kids are always begging for homework extensions.

For you sake I hope it is like Sam's Collage in ROTF. You could not throw a dead cat without hitting a wicked hot chick.

You should also start a Frat like in Old School.

You're my boy Blue, you're my boy!

Good luck man. I'm back myself (didn't finish either) after 11 years. I'm going back for a major in Health Information Management and Computer Science. :D  Yep, I'm 33 and back in college.

Goodluck. I started college just when I turned 24 and even I felt a little old with the majority of other students being fresh from High School. Honestly though, at your age, with all the experience I would hope you earned through life in general, you should have more determination and motivation, and that can account for a lot.

College is not like that. However if you replaced the word "hot" with the word "fat" then you might be onto the real college experience.

Which is why i love my course being on a performing arts campus, sooo many dancers.

Of course, they look at me and go "eewwww, who's the weird old fat guy?", but at least the scenery's nice.

Good luck man, just keep at it and you'll do fine.

And remember, they may be your classmates, but don't go after the young girls. You don't want to be "that guy". =P

Good luck man and a word of warning it takes longer to recover from a keg party at 30 than it does at 20 unless your name is Chuck Norris or Batman.

Yeah I started out in Nursing switching over to Administration of Justice. I worked nearly 10 years at a jail and I wanted a "no sweat" job the kind where you work for a few hours get a paycheck and go home. I was told I was overqualified for Target...Tell your Dad I feel his pain and the bullshit that is Target. So in the long run I am overqualified for Target but underqualified to work anywhere else without a BA. WTF?!?

NFE, Good Luck in school! Try to talk to the teachers and see if they can work with you before you actually start taking their math /science courses. Some will give prep work and some won't. Better to know who your dealing with now than down the road.
