This is just a thread to knock some ideas around because frankly, I'm not sure why this particular character would be a Decepticon, and the series he was in are jokey Japanese crap.

    Glit - Transformers Wiki

So why would a relatively compassionate medic who's willing to treat wounded Autobots join the Decepticons? What are they selling that he's buying? Frankly, he seems pretty loyal too, not the sort just waiting for a chance to defect.

    Ideas?

its Kiss Play.... I honestly I have no idea I mean looking at that bio I'd say he's a good guy. If I had to put a finger on it maybe its an ideology thing maybe he just agrees more with Mags when it comes to politics.... I think I'm giving Kiss Play far too much credit

My guess is the wine thing. Or maybe it's just Kiss Players.

:lol  :lol  :lol  He transforms into a head-cleaning cassette!!!

Okay, let's pretend it's not KISS Players, and treat this as a legitimate character. Aside from the afore-mentioned political affinities for the Decepticon agenda (long term, most likely... centralized universal government (with health care for all!) and a strictly orderly society? Sounds good if you're into control.

So why stick with them? Maybe it's because he believes the Cons NEED a doctor, someone with real skills? Maybe Glit is so devoted to saving lives that he works with the Cons because he knows nobody else will. Maybe he's a self-styled missionary/martyr, working with the lepers, so to speak... maybe he hopes that by living among them, he will be able to convert Cons, one by one, to the light of compassion?

Or maybe he was built to be a Con, and somehow just feels at home with them, afraid of change, pathologically attached to his faction for reasons of propriety and loyalty, even beyond an individual sense of reason?

Glit is awesome. That's really all there is to say. You just gotta accept it.

I like the "no one else wants the 'nice Con medic' job" explanation.

    Other hypotheses:

A Decepticon saved Glit's life, and there's an honor debt to repay.

Glit is actually Shattered Glass Ravage 'undercover'.

Some of the fiction often states that Decepticons weren't always evil. Many of them were good people like Jetfire or Glit, but over time they lost their way and became twisted and corrupted with evil.

    Its Kiss Players.

    Nuff, said.

But seriously, I think the more important question is how can he carry out medical procedures when he's a cat.

Because he's a Ravage repaint (or in some cases, IS Ravage, just from the SG universe) and the 'Cons need a medic that isn't part of a Combiner (Hook is in fact described as something close to a medic in his bio, but he's a Constructicon and thus necessary for Devestator).
Also, the Decepticons aren't all evil bastards, some of them are legitamately decent characters just caught up on the more "violent" side of things. IDW Thundercracker is a good example: he's still a 'Con, but he single handedly stoped a nuke (also launched by other Decepticons) simply because he said it was the wrong thing to do.

It seems all Glit knows how to do is repair everyone and get drunk. In other words, the main priorities this cat has are:

    1. Save everyone by fixing their problems. <---That will ensure he's needed and people will like him.

    2. Get drunk. <--- Being drunk makes him feel happy.

So basically, Glit is a codependent. That's probably why this bot just can't think outside the program...

Where is it canon that Decepticon medics are evil, sadistic bastards to their patients? Scalpel, maybe, but that's one character.

Medics should be the ONE set of mechs in an army that the individual soldiers TRUST, no matter how 'evil' the rest of the army is, because the medic is the one who becomes most intimate with their innards and is in the most vulnerable position when dealing with mechs in pain. Otherwise the army would go through medics pretty quickly, and no new medics would want to join...and those forced to go through the training would be too scared of being killed to do their job well. Fearful is a BAD thing to be when delicate precision is necessary. Not only that, but the numbers of soldiers who die would go up as they'd be reluctant to go to the medic until the absolute last moment. So medics who actually ARE compassionate (even if they are also tough mechs), and thus would be able to establish at least a little trust with the individual soldiers, would be the ideal 'con medics.

Would YOU want to work on a hairtrigger mech bristling with weapons who thinks EVERYONE is about to kill him without establishing at least a little bit of trust so as to preserve YOUR life AND his? Such a mech wouldn't let you get close enough to do anything if you didn't.

Just imagine him as in a form similar to Battle Ravage... Only with white armor.

I dunno... the same way Ravage engages in sapping operations I guess. They both require precision, but for Ravage things explode if he screws up. Maybe things explode when Glit makes a mistake too. ;)

I'm not sure why being part of Devastator would negate Hook's distinction as one of the Cons' few medics. He's the Surgical Engineer... considering the fine line between medecine and engineering when TFs are involved, that pretty much tells us he's a medical specialist... much as Hoist's function is "Maintenance" but once you read his profile, you realize that he's essentially an Autobot GP.

Repair/medic work is an important job, and I don't understand why Cons wouldn't have more medics... that said, Glit is a bit unusual, since he's really not that different than First Aid... both seem a bit too gentle in general.

Why's he a decepticon? Well, when everyone was choosing sides, Glit was hammered. He made some choices that day he's not happy with, but it's too late for him to bail out now. Don't worry, he'll still fix these homicidal maniacs and backstabbers, even though he feels dead inside. He... he just needs a drink first... hang on...

Starscream (to Cosmic Rust-infected Megatron): "I just checked with the repair bay. Your replacement part will be ready as soon as they get around to it."

Okay, maybe not evil, sadistic bastards, but not exactly oozing concern and sympathy, either.

On the other hand, considering that Megatron entrusted Starscream, the guy who takes every opportunity he can to overthrow and/or kill him, with the task of removing the chunk of infected meteorite from him instead of asking one of the Decepticon medics to do it...kinda makes you wonder about exactly how bad their medical staff is. :redface2:

This makes me wonder if the two of them would get along well. :)

Or maybe he's responsible for keeping Soundwave in top operating condition, assuming his function as a head-cleaning cassette is legitimate and wasn't just a whimsical choice made when he was reformatted with an Earth mode.

There may also be some kind of inherent faction loyalty here. He was created or enlisted to be their medic, so he feel some responsibility to do that job.

Besides, as some others have pointed out, there are at least a few members on both sides with conflicting and/or questionable loyalties, so Glit's in good company. Thundercracker has a soft spot for humans and sees no honor in slaughtering substantially weaker adversaries. Sunstreaker mostly just sticks around to feed his own ego. And Mirage is essentially an upper crust type who's gone from engaging in aristocratic pasttimes to fighting in the trenches with a bunch of misfits, eccentrics, and lunatics, so it's small wonder he's uncertain of the Autobot cause.
