    Your from Glasgow?
I'm sorry, I can no longer associate with you.

And why do you want a pound of butter for your mother?

    ...

    ...

    ...

    ...

not to be rude, but are you drunk?

label me all you want, ill stick to referring myself as 'jerk'.
    or 'asshole'
or 'dumbf******* sonof***** ****sh** bastard son of mine' as so my mother elegantly calls me around this time of year.

well last weekend i was at a party where most of the people had gotten through about several dozen gallons of liquor. (give or take)
and drunk people were attempting to speak where sober people didnt understand a word they said.

though it sounded weird i was able to fully understand them.

as i watch those videos i had a sensation of dejavu.
    it sounded similar.

now, im gonna save these videos and watch repeatedly.

edit: ...or watch them later 'cause im gotta have a chat with my sister's teach

You could always take the 'Rosetta Stone' approach - get Still Game on DVD and watch it with the subtitles on.

When my family moved to scotland for a few years when I was younger my parents stopped to ask directions from a guy who turned out to have a strong glaswegian accent and a cleft pallete - they never did figure out what he said....

Watching a show once on superstitions, they subtitled the Scottish man they were talking to in one segment. Caught another show on Nat Geo once, and they subtitled all the various people they interviewed, who were out of the UK. Nobody on either of those shows had an accent so thick I couldn't understand them.

At the other end of the spectrum, I caught something on Discovery Channel last night, and they subtitled the southern US accents. :lol

Reminds me of when my cousins from Ireland came and visited my family in California when I was a kid. I kept saying "what?" to everything they said because I couldn't understand them.

My mom asked me if I was on drugs.

Yeh we don't have as strong an accent but it's the dialect that most people will not understand

My mother's from Edinburgh, my father from Hereford. When they visited Glasgow, my father found very quickly that it was best to pretend he was deaf if a local tried to converse with him.

We may be unwashed but at least we don't shit on the street. True story, in my entire lifetime on the west coast I've never once seen a human turd anywhere it shouldn't be. I spend one night in Edinburgh and what do I find? A great big dirty toley right in the street.
    So ha!
