    Charity begins at home...

...or something. I prefer to give to organisations.

I give money to the ones I see there regularly. There is a woman who had a Dog and Cat with her, that I haven't seen in a few weeks, which makes me feel bad. I hope she found somewhere to stay with this horrid cold weather.

I would give to organisations, but don't trust people sitting out asking for it.

I prefer to give to organizations, but I do research them first to see where my money is actually going to. If it's going to help fund someone's new sports car, then no thanks. I"ve been a fan of the Jimmy Fund for awhile.

Organizations are better, but if I've got change, I always give it. I'll just make sure to see if they've got anything in their hands first, now.

I'll give to the guy on the corner with a sign once in a while, but I HATE it when somebody comes up to me with some bullshit story about how they live 60 miles away and ran out of gas and money, and are walking up and down the street asking strangers for $2. I hear that a lot.

If you want to beg, fine, but don't hit me with some bullshit story.

I like honest beggars. One guy once came up to me outside a gas station, and told me that he was collecting money to buy beer, because it was his birthday. I have no idea if it was really his birthday, but at least he was honest about what he was going to buy.

I never give to those who hold out the cup and ask for it.

I do give to organizations that I've researched a bit.

And I'll give to the creative types. The best one I ever met was this dude who walked the line when we were waiting to be let in to First Avenue in Minneapolis for the Disturbed concert. Dude had on a trenchcoat COVERED in signatures. He'd walk up to people and just say, "Sign my coat, I like to keep a memory of every person I've ever met." He had a cup along for change, but didn't ask for it, just held it and asked people to sign his coat. Damn near everybody signed it, very few gave him any money. I popped him a fiver because damn it, the only thing I've even heard of that's better than that is the dude with the "I need money for beer and hookers" sign.

Unforunately in Portland the whole Punk Street kid Culture prefer to live on the street and are a real problem around here. There are also way too many Methheads doing the street thing too. In Pittsburgh I gave spare change all the time. In Portland, not so much.

Organizations yes, people no. We have had people come up to our car and stand infront of my girlfriends door and wouldnt let her out until I yelled at the guy. We have a problem with homeless in our city, 99% them are crackheads

I had a friend that gave the beggars applications to McDonalds...It didn't go over too well.

I never give money as I figured it doesn't help there problem and the problem in general. If people didn't give the spare change, then the homeless would stop asking for it.

Yep. It's like leaving food out when you're camping because you feel sorry for the bears.

oh yeah, i got no time for that crap.

i had a guy come up to me once and say he'd been mugged, and need 3 quid to get a taxi home. i was amazed at the fact he only need £3 for a taxi. told him i had no cash on me.

I'll give when I have it to give, and the person genuinely seems like they need it. I don't particularly care what it goes toward either.
