http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7195416.stm Its not quite as dramatic as that, she was seen to after 2 days, but still. This is the bit that got me. No shit. Really?
There's no parenting license, unfortunately. Actually, I'd love one of those for selfish reasons. I don't want to have kids, but many of the women I've dated say they want to. But most of them wouldn't pass the test. So when they failed it, it wouldn't be points against me for not wanting kids like it is now. It'd be on them for being unqualified! Yeah, that would work for me.
Did she set elaborate traps for potential burglars involving electrified door knobs and tins of paint?
That reminds me, has anyone else seen the Orange cinema commercial that has Macauley Culkin in it? I like those adverts, they're funny. OT - £100 for six weeks will hardly keep her daughter stocked with fags and cider for the entire time.
It's shit like this that makes me wonder. There are fantastic parents out there who go above and beyond anything for their children. Then, there are these people...
I would have LOVED that when I was 14. The partying would have been legendary. I would have needed more money though.
6 weeks is a very long time, but yet I would have been more apalled had it been a child of younger age. This 14 year old could just as easily go over to the neighbors house, who supposedly had agreed to watch her. All in all, the mom was still dumb to pull something like this.
Parents these days... if they can't take care of their kids properly, then why do they even bother having any? Also, I can't stand that some parents just let their kids get into big-ass trouble.
14 eh? i'd have a problem with this story if the girl was younger, but 14 seems like she should be able to take care of herself for the most part, still lame what the mom did but in the end i don't think its to bad.
100 pounds is like what 150 us? I think I could have made that last for 6 weeks when I was 14. This isn't something I would ever do with my children(should I ever have any) simply because I wouldn't trust them enough for such a large responsibility but it seemed like this girl was able to handle it just fine so I can't really crucify the mother too badly here.
Honestly, I can. The mother showed absolutley pathetic care over her daughter's saftey, well being and feelings. Despite being able to take care of herself, which seems to have been a neccessity for her, I doubt the kid really wanted to spend nearly two months alone on a limited budget. And the fact the mother 'thought to herself' to make plans with other people, but completely neglected to do so, and then told the daughter to 'get money from your father' for such a vindictive reason shows me that this woman is an absolute uncareing bitch. And then to deny any responsibility for her actions and responsibility for it, just reinforce that sentiment. This woman is treating her daughter more like a roommate then a child, and that ends up hurting the child in the long run.
There's a fantastic Japanese movie called "Nobody Knows" about a similar situation. A mother who has 4 children, all by different fathers, leaves them all with a little money but no food. It's pretty depressing, based on a true story. I think if our global society wasn't so sex-obsessed, maybe people would realize there are life consequences for their philandering.
14 eh? Good thing Jiggles wasn't around and knew about this. She's past puberty, so he'd have gone there. What's that they say about grass on the field?
