That's fairly standard practice in almost every industry. If you want unbiased opinion then look elsewhere. Would you really trust the word of Knowles over someone like, for example, Ebert when looking for decent critical analysis on a movie?

No one should ever let someone else's opinion determine whether or not they see a movie.

according to a lot of people on here, I shouldn't even let my own opinion determine whether or not I see a movie.

I'm not surprised some people will like GIJOE waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than ROTF. You know why? Because it's focused on humans, not giant alien transforming robots. That's probably the main reason why reviewers might like it.

QFT. And I actually don't mind the suits.

But then again, I'm kinda already on board with this film.:D

Y'know I liked the GI joe and TF crossover comics....it'd be cool to make into a movie XP

It's too early for speculation, GI Joe hasn't hit theatres yet

Personally, I have no intention of seeing G.I. Joe in the theatre, but maybe one of my buds might call me up and I'll go along. Now I wouldn't be surprised if it were better than ROTF because I thought it was pretty bad, once was enough for me. Of coarse I thought Star Trek was better and Wolverine and Terminator rate slightly above ROTF. ROTF blew all of these movies out of the water in the Box Office again numbers do not mean good directing or acting.

The question will be is, "Will G.I. Joe stir up the nostalgia that it aims to?" I remember a lot more guys like G.I. growing up than they did Transformers. I'm not sure who fan base is bigger now though. On top of that the next question is, "Is it a good movie?" So far IMO it looks cheesy and therefore I have no real interest in seeing it.

I love Transformers! I love GI Joe! I want them both to do well. I want more Transformers & GI Joe movies & toys. Don't care about anything or anybody else.

I'm totally on board for this film except for 1 thing, YOUR SIG! Baroness is my favorite character & Sienna Miller is all wrong for the part. Sienna Miller doesn't look anything like the Baroness & dropping the accent & making her Canadian is my biggest gripe about the movie. While everybody else is bitching about the accelerator suits I'm bitching about Sienna Miller ruining my favorite character. I can't believe anybody would say Sienna Miller as Baroness FTW unless "FTW" stands for Fuck The World. lol

    Why not?

It doesn't mean I can't enjoy or dislike based on someone's opinion. Also hedging one's bet on one critic is always a bad idea. If things are tight, financially, I want to be sure I'm getting something good for my money. There's plenty of valid, sound, reasons to take things like critical opinion into consideration.

People seem to be forgetting that for us the fact it has Transformers written on it is enough to get us to lay down our hard earned. For people who aren't balls deep in the franchise they want some perspective and food for thought before heading out to spend. This is why critics exist in the first place. A filter and aggregator of opinion with which to base decisions from.

TO be honest, I think MIke Bay would have been a good director for G.I.Joe.

G.I. Joe was the greatest thing in my early childhood. I hate seeing what has happened to it. The G.I. Joe I remember only needed a few little guns to take down their enemies. Now they have super outfit thingies? No

I wonder how much of the Joe fan base they're counting is still the pre-'80s crowd that has no interest in Joe vs Cobra stories though.

Yes, this is the whole problem. It's like the creators were worried "hey all the blockbusters lately have robots/special suits" "Well, we will put the Joe's in suits"
    - It just looks so bad. If it were one Joe in a small part of the movie that made sense for the plot, yea that would be cool but all the main guys? The only part about this movie that looks right is Snake Eyes, everything else I've seen looks bad. This movie will not do well in my opinion, it might be fun for non-fans, but will all the non-fans come out in droves to see this - I don't think so.

In my personal opinion, "professional movie critic" is a very unnecessary role in our society. For example, the lead movie critic in my hometown newspaper gave "Return of the King" a C+ rating. The movie went on to win 11 Oscars (including Best Picture), and became the second film in history to earn over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. But according to the "professional movie critic", the film was average at best.

I disagree that there are "plenty of valid reasons" to take someone's opinion into consideration. Sure, you can listen to what people thought of it, but at the end of the day, I am a better judge of what I will like. My friends don't like all the same movies I do, and vice versa. The only way to be sure you are getting something "good" for your money is to sit through it and see how you felt about it after you left. Another example: Watchmen. Was not worth the $5 I spent. Yet, I've heard much more positive opinions on that movie than negative (both before and after seeing it). But to me, it was terrible.
