a few days ago my ghost shrimp had babies. Her name was Pinky, but she jumpped out when I was transfering her from the hatching tank to the regular one and died.

But her babies survived and were swimming around upside down. This is normal. But this morning, they did their first moult and are looking like mini versions of their mother. I am absolutely thrilled. I have about 10 I think, give or take. they move around too much to count.

I am so excited. I can't wait until my other shrimps have babies.

this is one of the ghost shrimp, not pinky.

there isn't much meat on them. Claude, my macrobrachium Pilimanus might be more edible, but she's larger.

Cute is watching them clean themselves. shrimp rub their hands all over their faces. They are quite particular. And cherry shrimp are gorgeous.

You better be careful. I used to have ghost shrimp. It seems they're difficult to raise. Since they're so small they get lost in your tank, sucked up into the filter or eaten by the mother.

the jar they are in has a sponge filter and the mother died the day they hatched. I am setting up my fry tank again to take my shrimp and babies. I don't think I have to much to worry at the moment. their only companions are cherry shrimp and those don't eat their young or the young of others.

I didn't even know people raised shrimp for anything other than consumption.

I got a few different species of shrimp. They are relatively new to the aquarium hobby. they are a fair bit more touchy than fish. They are a lot of fun. Very pretty and are excelent cleaners in an aquarium.

I got other pics here of my other species..

Macrobrachium Pilimanus (muffprawn) "Chameleon Shrimp" She's a blue female. She is predatory in nature so I keep her in her own tank and feed her by hand. She's a right chicken when it comes to anything, but she can kill an adult fish. This shrimp is nearly 3 inches long.

The ones below are all about 1 inch give or take.

    Orange Bee Shrimp

    Sunkist Orange and Cherry Shrimp

Pregnant Cherry shrimp female (eggs under tail)

It really broke my heart because I turned my back for a couple minutes and she had jumpped.

The first imagery when I saw the title of this thread was, "WTF? Animal spirits now can give birth?!" Turns out I was wrong.

Actually, back when my ex setup his first tank in 1991, cleaner shrimp and ghost shrimp were available. But of course nowadays there are many, many more varieties, and they're much less expensive, too. Those are some really lovely shrimp!

You got it. :D  Actually Clyde died too, not sure what ailed him. I think he got sucked into the filter. Inky did as well, but I got him out quickly.

    Moonscream:
yeah there were a number of shrimp species now, but cherry shrimps were bred into existance recently. Along with some other selectively bred specimines.

And Thank you. My mother was here with a camera taking pics, mostly of the shrimps. I do hope to get a few more pics of them to post later.

Actually I don't have any goldfish. They'd surely eat the ghosts.
