I think I'm gonna use some of my money from work and finally get an I-Pod. I'm planning on getting a new Video I-pod (30GB). It seems to be one of the best values. I got about 10Gigs of MP3s and can use the rest for any new CDs I get and lots of videos. Are I-Pods reliable? I've heard some reports of them breaking easily and such.

I've had my iPod for about two years now, and I absolutely love it. I love being able to carry my entire music library with me, and I picked up a radio transmitter so I can listen in my car. The earbuds, those nifty trendy white earbuds everyone likes to hate, are actually some of the best I've had, and it's never let me down.

A wise investment, my good man. May I recommend that you invest in a good case or sleeve for your iPod?

Well First I need to get a few more CDS. Getting some Beatles and classic rock cds. Then a tape thing so I can listen in the car when I get the Ipod. Then comes the task or arranging all my MP3s onto the I-Pod..

I spent a few hours already renaming MP3s and moving them around and I still have a long way to go..

I hear the same but I've never had a problem with mine. I've even droped it a few times. I've had it for a little over than a year. I also have a nano that I've had a for the same amount of time. I work out with it and droped it a few times. No problem. I do get worried when it hits the floor.

Get some good headphones to go with it.

It comes with those white ones you see on everyone. They are pretty good. But there are better ones. I have some new headphones I just bought. The music sounds SO much better. But if you don''t want to spend more money just stick with the ones it comes with. They're not bad.

Import the music into iTunes, since that is the program you will need to use for your iPod. If iTunes recognizes names, artists, etc., then so will the iPod.

I plan on it. $250 is a lot of money right off the bat.. plus about $10-20 for the tape device so I can play it in my car..

Damn I'm going gadget happy since I got my job.. I bought a DS and a bunch of games (well I had saved a bunch of my money too) and now I'm buying a Ipod.. Thank god I got a PSP otherwise that would be next... guess next would be a 360 or something...

I will. I was just changeing the file names to a way I like and organizing them around before I get ready to put them on an I-pod..

Just doing stuff like making a file "Album title - Track Number - Artist - Song Title" become just "Artist - Song Title"

Like "Transformers The Movie Soundtrack - 01 - Stan Bush - Dare" become simply "Stan Bush - Dare"

That or adding the artists name and such to just a song title.

An ipod is a great investment. You will be happy. DO buy a sleeve or case for it though. And skip the tape thing. Go wireless. They cost about the same.

    What he said.

I originally got at 20GB 4th Generation one with the black and white screen but recently upgraded that to a 80GB 5th Gen one and still love it.

Though I did change the ear buds to a Sennheiser make, and they also come with a sleeve now.

You are aware that the new iPods don't actually come with a CD with iTunes, and that you have to download it off the web?
So you can start importing the music to that just now in peperation and then plug in the iPod when you get it, register it and then update your music.
I'm also not sure about you having the music stored in the way you like.
I just let iTunes to store it where is saves it under a folder of the artist, then album and each one has the track number then name:
    ..\iTunes\iTunes Music\The Killers\Sam's Town\01 Sam's Town.m4p

Right now I just have a 1st gen Nano. Thing is great when you're running and working out. The regular iPod's just look ridiculously huge compared to the nano.

The new nanos feel like toys. I played with one the other day and was afraid I was going to snap it in two.

A Nano was recently turned into my workplace's lost and found. I'm thinking that after a month or so, if it's unclaimed, I might just calim it for myself. Still works fine, and all the rest of my co-managers already have one.
