I'm trying something I haven't done before this year. I cast my head in plaster.

There's the used cast. Covering your head in plaster is an interesting way to spend the evening...

So I made myself a plaster copy of my head from that cast. Now I'm sculpting on my plaster head.

Right now the sculpt is still rough, but you get the idea. Best of all, I bought a mullet wig to go with it. :D

When the sculpting's done, I'll cast the whole thing in plaster again. That will give me molds to fill with foam latex. Then I remove the clay from the plaster head and use it for the "positive" of the latex mold and I end up with a latex application that fits my face perfectly. I paint it all up and glue it on.

Since latex is very flexible, and since it will be STRONGLY glued to my face, the makeup will move with my face and seem more like skin than a mask. Everything that is white on the plaster head where I'm sculpting will be my own skin.

Alginate is a little safer to use, but nice work so far.
