Geoffrey's Toy Box Is The New Toys R Us - The Toyark - News

So that's Meijer, right? That's the only "midwest retailer" I can think of that has the right size stores

Meijer would be an interesting choice...and I can't think of any other Midwestern retailer that may fit the bill. How far is Meijer's reach? You can't hardly swing a dead cat in Cincy without hitting one...:D

Man, are those owners ever sleazeballs. Laying off thousands of staff and letting the company crash and burn, then keeping the brand name to make more money for themselves.

No, there are others. Von Maur is a high-end Dillard's-esque Midwest retailer in malls with a tiny toy section - I could easily see GTB sliding right in for the holiday season.

Isn't Target's HQ in Minnesota? That seems like the most likely candidate to me.

Yeah, but they're a national chain, not a "midwestern" chain.

I'm sure we'll see soon enough though, I'd imagine this will be signage only this year and should likely roll out for the Christmas season (which means mid November)

I don't think they're in Wisconsin, but that could've changed in recent years, I suppose. They started in MI, the inventor of the "superstore" concept, and are in 5 states in the Midwest (again, unless they've added WI.)

When I saw "Midwest retailer" I immediately thought of Meijer, but I suppose there's other stores that could fit that bill as well.

Meijer has only 10 stores in Wisconsin I think they’re fairly new stores too but I could be wrong. But yes Wisconsin has meijer just a whole lot less than some of the states on the list.

As long as there are other options to buy toys, I'm not going to support them. It was bad enough what the vulture capitalists did to TRU. They said the only way to fix things was by going bankrupt and liquidating everything, including the IP. Then at the last minute they decide to change direction. I think this was their plan all along. They had offers for the IP and refused to accept any of them without saying why or setting minimum bids for it. They were disingenuous from the start. They screwed over their suppliers and workers. Without the help of companies like Hasbro, MGA, and LEGO, their model is going to fail and it should. Then they'll need to try and sell the IP again, but only then it will be diluted in value.

I have been saying since the beginning. If someone/somegroup knowingly bleeds a company dry, a company that provides joy to millions of children. Then burn all the people that work for you, burn other investors and then dance with its corpse for more money.... If you believe in heaven and hell, well that someone/somegroup are going somewhere south, lol. Greed to the level of evil.

Don't worry,I don't see this going very far anyway. The toy retail market isn't that great and hasn't been for quite a while. There is too much competition for TRU to succeed again. And yep, MANY are on their way to Hell.

Pretend bankruptcy to get that vulture Bain off their backs, fine. Even to punish Hasbro and Mattel for terrible assortments of garbage product I can grudgingly accept. But the crap they put employees and real customers (not the "oh me oh my $1 over Walmart is nuclear powered genocide" crowd) for no reason is ridiculous.

In other breaking news: people with lots of money find ways to make lots more money at the cost of the average worker and consumer. Details at 11PM after local sports!

To be fair, isn't this the liquidation company that took over the assets doing this, and not the old TRU ownership?

So TRU still had to bankrupted and liquidated. The company doing so has just held onto some IP.

The company couldn't have remained operational while keeping the thousands of employees. This method only works because they've offloaded all of the overhead, including employee salaries.

Not the old TRU ownership, but apparently the creditors now controlling the IP, so not the liquidation company at this point, either.
