Hehe, inspired by the many "PS3 or 360, Which should I buy?" threads, how about we rewind the clock to 1989/1990's and ask that question without the knowledge of how things would have turned out.

No Flaming please, unless it's Smang.

What system do you guys recommend I get.

Sega Promises Blast Processing, but Super Nintendo has like 250 colors on screen at once. That makes for a better image right?

As someone who greatly enjoys fighting games, I'd have to go with the SNES. The Genesis gave it a good go, but in the end, I wound up enjoying the games I got for the SNES a bit more.

The Roleplaying Genre is where it gets a bit tough. SNES had FF2 and FF3, ridiculously good games, and then there was Chrono Trigger, also an instant classic, and still playable today.

But I can't dismiss Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force 1 and 2 (new gameplay to a console), Shining in the Darkness.

In the end I think I had more memories with FF2 and 3 and Chrono though.

Dude. Get N or get out. No question. Super Mario World is a thousand times better than Sonic the hedgehog, even with that supposed add-on they have coming out to let you play as knuckles.

I love me some Sonic, but yeah Super Mario World was "worlds" better, and had an assload of levels, and then there were the hidden ones.

Two more words..... Star Fox... Yeah I think I know which system I would get.

SNES>Genesis, though they are both good consoles.

When I was a kid, in regards to this, I gave the very biased answer of SNES. All I had ever known was Nintendo and it was what I was familiar with. Genesis had some great titles and it wasn't until that X-Men game exclusive to the Genesis came out that I wanted one...bad.

In retrospect, I was right about the SNES being the superior system, but for the wrong reasons. To this day I still play SNES games while the Genesis is nothing more than a mildly happy memory.

SNES wins, hands down. Ahead of its time in games, innovation (4 button set up with shoulder buttons ftw), and durability.

I swept sidewalks at a bookstore and saved up money all summer to buy a Genesis when I was a kid. I got it before the SNES even came out, I was a dedicated fanboy for the longest time.

Then my parents bought an SNES for "the family" for Christmas one year and I saw the light.

I still think the Genesis excelled with shooters, but for just about every other genre SNES was where it was at, plus the graphics tended to be crisper and more colorful, not to mention the fact that the sound was light years ahead of the Genesis.

I had both and I loved the living shit out of both of them. Seriously, unlike this gen where I kinda like the PS3 a bit more than the 360 (but mostly based on games and having worked for the empire that is MS), during that Generation, I had Threesomes because I loved both systems.

I had the Sega system back in the day.

Sega was really taking risks back then and a lot of them paid off.
But in hindsight I think the SNES was the better system.
They both had a good library of games though.

I used to have both and I strongly recommend SNES if only for Street Fighter 2. Genesis got some nice titles but nothing as good as Super Mario and SF.
