I wouldn't really recommend doing so. The parts are different than on Tracks (since his knees have to bend the other way), but if you look at the back of Tracks' legs, there's a length of exposed slider there, that would wind up being front and center on Wheeljack's kneecaps, and look really ugly. I like that he's shorter, though. I don't need all my Transformers to be lean and agile, and G1 Wheeljack was pretty wide looking, anyways. I modded my Tracks so that his shoulders aren't as wide, so now with Wheeljack's wider shoulders and shorter legs, it'll go even further to differentiate the two.
Wheeljack looks f#ck'n great! IMO that altmode suits him even better than it does Tracks - & what about that botmode? The designers have nailed Wheeljack's likeness perfectly . I can't wait to get a hold of him! But since I live in Oztraylia (& distribution here will most likely be months behind the US), I'm gonna have to nab one off the 'bay. All I have to do now is wait for a reasonable price...
As soon as BBTS notified me he was in stock, it was enough for me to get my POL shipped immediately. I really can't wait to get this guy next week and I'll just keep admiring this video until then. And if nobody does it by then, I'll take comparison pics of this Wheeljack, Generations Drift and United Jazz
I don't collect the Generations line stuff myself, but saw the video on the frontpage... have to say that is a fantastic update of the G1 figure! The mold suits WJ better than tracks, nice alterations, good paint deco; everything about him has strong echoes of the G1 design. Really nice.
I didn't see anywhere where you covered his articulation? How's the back of his legs, were they remolded so he has proper knee motion?
I'm disappointed in the proportions too, I mean they completely failed on capturing the gorilla arms of the original g1 toy.
Yeah, his legs are remolded to properly articulate. Peaugh didn't show off that articulation, but it's already obvious that his legs are different because they don't pull out as far (so that the sliding rails don't gets exposed at his knees), and the wheels are on a separate swing bar so that they can hinge down by his ankles. Also, Peaugh didn't mention that he has new clip points for his wrenches on the backs of his legs, for storage. Not sure if it's shown in the instructions, though, but it was identified in the latest magazine scans for the United version.
So his wrenches have somewhere to store in robot mode? Hot damn, I can't wait for this guy to show up.
Yeah, the kness can bend all the way back to the point that his heel touches his backpack. Also, Here's a shot of Wheeljack and Hasbro Jazz: You can see Wheeljack's a much more vibrant white.
I have to amend what I stated earlier. The G1 Wheeljack didn't really have a hand weapon. I do think he merits another shoulder mounted laucher though.
so let me see, Wheeljack = a lot of paint + awesome representation + remold... Jazz = not enough paint + awesome representation + original mold..... the math don't add up here or am I wrong Why did Tracks & Wheeljack get the treatment, when they couldn't give Jazz a back window, or tail lights? Regardless I want WJ and I have him coming this week or early next, along with TC, Scourge & Kup. One question...is he really as bright white as he looks?
The gun is the same colors as the one that came with Tracks. You can easily snap that one on as well.
History's shown us that remolds/repaints are allowed more elaborate decoes, because the cost of the figure's been financed already. The original Universe line had figures loaded with paint apps, with lots of fancy airbrushed decoes and tons of little details. Universe 2.0 Silverstreak is covered in silver paint.
I caved last night and pre-ordered the Hasbro Wheeljack. I have the United version on pre-order but having seen the shiny green paint I have to say I massively prefer the deco on the Hasbro figure. Guess I'll just sell the United version straight on when it lands, unless I fall in love with it when it's in-hand, though that seems unlikely.
