Started out as a speedpaint, but I ended up taking it a little further than that. Still not what I would call a "finished" piece, but I like the roughness as it stands.

So yeah, who does Generations Thunderwing represent for me? Well, I find his IDW portrayal boring, and the only other one of any substance is his Marvel Comics version, all Matrix-obsessed and awesome. Problem is, that storyline is pretty tight and ends conclusively... so what if this toy represents a cartoon version of him? There would still be the issue of the Matrix being "emptied" and nothing more than a "shell." But Optimus was still able to use it to access Vector Sigma... and I figured that would be a perfectly fine thing for a cartoon Thunderwing to have a rare connection to and an obsession to possess.

Thank you all for the feedback! As usual, it is very much appreciated.

Thank you! I've given myself some license over the past few weeks to dive into the fanart as much as possible. It's been good, but not sustainable – I think I'll have to let real life take the driver's seat again shortly. That's actually one of the reasons I'm leaning towards "speed-painting" right now; hopefully if I get used to doing TF art that's purposefully unfinished, I'll be more likely to dash off a pic now and then without feeling like I need to dedicate huge amounts of time and effort. The anticipation of heavy work can be more of a hindrance to me than the work itself.

And I heart you back for the kind words! Seriously, if there wasn't a community that I could count on getting responses from, I know I'd be a lot less motivated to do this. Whatever the opposite of a vicious cycle is, that's this.

Thanks! It's Photoshop from start to finish, using some custom brushes I've found online.

For a moment there, i misread the name signed under the picture, and i thought "This dude's last name is Cupholder? Holy shit, that's hardcore".

Loving the picture, his facial expression looks like he's about to cry with joy from reaching whatever goal he was obsessing about that day of the week.

Lovely composition and great balance of action and detail , even down to the bokeh flare effects of the light. Thunderwing always demands greatness, and this delivers.

Very nice. I like the colours they help to convey/envoke emotion. Plus you can see/feel the greed/lust for power Thunderwing has.

Heh – okay, if that's what counts as hardcore, I'll take it! ("Cupholder" is a nickname I've gotten from time to time, despite the fact that my name is actually pronounced "koo-fault," so the pun doesn't even work out loud.)

Sweet, I'm glad the emotion came through. His toy has a strange, Jack-o-lantern-ish mouth, and it took some doing to make it both accurate and appropriately expressive.

Ooo, "bokeh"... I had to look that up. I'm glad it all works for you, especially the sense of "greatness" – Thunderwing is nothing if not larger than life.

Thank you! I was happy with how that turned out too; like Thunderwing's mouth, I ended up putting a goodly amount of work into VS making sure it was both reasonably true to the original art and appropriate for the lighting needs and style of the pic.

Awesome. I was aiming to convey both beatific awe and possessive greed, and judging by the responses, I think I hit both marks. Thank you all for the feedback!

I can almost hear Queen's 'Gimme the Prize' playing in the background of that scene. Amazing work.
