That was before the movies, which drove a lot of people back to collecting Transformers. Transformers was far more of a niche for adult collectors than it is now. So there's that.

And the only reason anyone wants that shitty Ultra Magnus is for the City Commander add-on.

So taking those two aspects into account, in 2006 you were less likely to have someone spring for a Skywarp when it cost double than you would now.

The set may have been clearanced at Target but it sold well. Target used to clearance their exclusives out after a month or two back then (they don't do it as often any more).

The set was only $20, so you were basically getting Skywarp for free too (or Magnus half off, depending on how you look at it).

$20? I recall that going for $30 when it came out. They weren't gonna sell you a Voyager for $20(at the time) and a Deluxe for the same price together. I recall passing on the set because I was very strict with my spending at the time, I do regret it, but it was what I had to do.

And not Takara. They got like 2 in a row while we got Thundercrackers in a row.

When I heard of the UM/SW Two-Pack it was already insanely expensive at the secondary market, otherwise I would have bought that two-pack.

So, if they were not sold so well... where are they now? :D

I mean, I could just get a Skywarp knockoff, but I really would prefer better quality for this.

The same place all the Leader Shadow Command Megatrons and Leader Jetfires that had to be clearanced out. Surely you haven't forgotten how long it took to unload all those, have you? That was just a couple of years ago, after the movie hit and brought back lots of fans. Even so, there were a ton of them that sat for months and had to be clearanced out. Now they both sell for substantial mark-ups, just like Magnus and Skywarp. High after-market prices are not indicative of large retail demand.

Look, I'm all for everyone getting whichever toy they happen to want, but in this case, it doesn't necessarily make business sense for Hasbro to go back to the well on this deco of this mold. They have empirical evidence that Skywarp doesn't sell well. Sorry.

There are two available to pick from I don't see what the issue is here.

MSRP was $19.99 - same price as a voyager at the time, and deluxes were 7.99.

I still doubt the conventional belief that the exclusive sold poorly - it followed the same pattern a lot of Target's exclusives did - lots of stock, limited shelf time, followed by clearance. Their other Universe and TFTM exclusives followed the same pattern. Robovision Op was probably the only exclusive that was hard to find. Target exclusives don't seem to stick around as long as TRU exclusives do, nor are they as hard to find. Just as people argue today that the massive amounts of Bumblebee on the shelves doesn't mean they aren't selling, lots of clearance stock at Target doesn't mean they didn't sell well. We don't know what Target's logic or goals were related to exclusives, it's likely they view toys as a loss leader and thus would measure the performance differently than just total # of units sold.

And where would that be? I'm checking Ebay and other sites every few weeks for Skywarp. All I find are knockoffs.

Masterpiece Skywarp on the other hand would be easy and cheap to obtain. But I'm not collecting Masterpieces.

Yeah, just because something was made doesn't mean it's cost effective.

And besides, IMHO the Henkei is off with the chrome null rays.

I saw the Henkei version on Amazon for 170.

But I don't think I'll ever pay more then 30 for a Deluxe.

The paint apps on the knockoffs are too sloppy.

If you're interested in Masterpiece Skywarp, check Amazon.de, they have one for 44,95€. I have seen on Amazon.com they go mostly for 150$ and more.

If I would collect Masterpieces and would have the space for them, I would get him. I was kinda tempted a few times, but I will probably never be able to get the other Masterpieces at my price range so I thought I pass on him.

My hope is we can finally get a Classics Sunstorm in Generations next year. If we do, then I can finally stop collecting these damn seekers. :lol

Another idea I had was getting another Thundercracker and a Knockoff Skywarp and swap parts, so that it is partially not such a bad quality. But I don't know if it works ;)

I'd love this! I'm definitely game for Sunstorm; he's always been one of my favorite Decepticons, mainly for the colors, and the fact that his old Universe toy was my first Decepticon! :D

Part of me wonders if we'll only see Skywarp on shelves again (outside of Japan) if it's another exclusive/multi-pack.

Which makes me hope it's just a Seekers multi-pack. Maybe using some other unused designs, such as 'Sandstorm' and 'Black Death Starscream.' Or Sunstorm and one of the Air Warriors.
