Just opened mine and I must agree the colors do look great on this mold but his giant head is a bit off putting.
I decided I'm going to sculpt a new head and repaint HFTD Tomahawk to be Blue Bacchus. It just feels like a crime to have Black Shadow and not Blue Bacchus either.

I just realized what his head reminds me of. It looks like if Megatron and Starscream had a child. Works for me! I love this thing. I loved Thunderwing too, but this one is even better.
Yeah, this bothers me too. Grey, Black, Red, Silver....and mustard yellow? What the hell were they thinking? Especially when it shows up so prominently in the alt mode, in a place where an obtrusive yellow square makes no sense. I just know before all is said and done I will make some poor decisions and try to remedy this oversight with paint or dye.
Maybe it was to match his minor yellow accents, but yeah. Considering it's used in a place that's not supposed to pop or otherwise stand out, I'm at a loss in regards to astetic reasons. My guess would be that it's got more to do with what was in better supply, and maybe they figured it was better using it there than well... anywhere else?
To start off, my first experience with this mold when I transformed it was, "Is that it?" When I picked up Sky Shadow, I also picked up Junkheap. I realized after I had opened and was fiddling with Junkheap, that I was going to have to open Sky Shadow next, and was prepared for a let down. Yeah, it's the same very simple transformation, but those color are fantastic! It was enough to make up for the disappointment in the mold, so much as for me to call this a well balanced wave!
Yeah, I realized that after I posted and went to look at the original toy. It does have some gold near the back of the jet mode, the problem is it doesn't work here. Probably because this is a mustard gold plastic while the G1 toy had gold paint.
Absolutely agree... The gold on the og looked much better than this attempt at gold... But I don't mind it much, I really dig this guy. Think I'll put my second Thunderwings black shoulder guns on him soon, just to break up the different grays of his arms a bit.
Scored! I rarely buy redecos, but Blackshadow made the cut - even with the mold's simple transformation, the color scheme is really sharp. Black/red/silver is always a good combination, and the reworked head and chest make enough of a difference from Thunderwing for me. Just leave the wings positioned differently in robot mode and bang, completely different silhouette.
