They both transform exactly the same way, and their heads are both hidden in jet mode. The only difference is Thunderwing didn't come like that in the package. :lol

Looks like the neck balljoint has a bit more range of motion than Thunderwing's. Very nice, and the new paintscheme is sharp.

I found Sky Shadow a few days ago at a local Walmart with a few Junkheaps. I never really messed with Thunderwing much. I didn't how much I actually liked the mold. Plus, this guy has the red and black colors I love seeing together.

Does anyone else's Sky Shadow's head pop off every time they try to turn it or did I get a defective one?

BLACK Shadow is definitely a figure that I'm very glad I got! Does the Thunderwing mold justice, that's for sure. The deco is sharp and impressive also.

Sounds like it. Mine is fine. In fact, I'd say it's quite tight, as Thunderwing had more wiggle room in terms of head movement beyond the basic swivel.

I'll offer my head feedback and say that mine is pretty fine. It sounds like the ball is miscast. Pop the head off and file down the surface of the ball. Keep filing and test fit often until it stops becoming a problem.

My favorite thing about this toy? The fact that Hasbro teased him months ago when Thunderwing came out- in the transformation instructions for TW, the alt head was pictured and sent the interwebs into a tizzy. That kind of nod to the fans is so incredibly cool and I'm glad they did that.

Oh, and lest I forget that this guy doesn't disappoint in-hand. Guess the whole head reveal tease wouldn't have meant squat if the figure wasn't great.

The BEST thing about it is that the original Black Shadow was a remold/redeco of the Thunderwing Pretender also. This figure is just so good in so many ways.

I'm being nitpicky, but didn't they design WJ first?

Opened mine from HTS today and he's gorgeous. The only thing about this toy I don't like are the mustard yellow/gold plastic joints. It seems like such an odd choice and as far as I can tell the plastic color was only used for joints, so why mold it in that color?

Yes they did. Like Alternators Silverstreak was designed before Smokescreen. Sometimes the remold comes out first for odd reasons.
