He looks tons better than the other photoshop pics made him look. I might have to nab him after all. I can't see a way to get classic megs head off either. I wonder if the titanium megatron head would work or be too big.

 

Was on the fence about this guy before, but these pics have really won me over. Excellent looking toy.

 

I don't know, but I have a feeling if we are patient enough we might just see a Megatron out of this mold.

 

^ There aren't enough Megatrons? He lacks Megatron's arm cannon and has a random pickaxe. Don't see it.

This guy just upgraded from "no chance" to "impulse buy if I see it." Especially since I'm that close to just being a Generations completist. The pickaxe still doesn't work for me (that is for STRAXUS!), probably at least get it to look like a wielded cannon.

 

Is much as I respect the homage to Straxus/Darkmount represents, I CAN'T stand the idea of a blue tank?!? I know Straxus is a Geewun thing but I don't care for canon-continuity. So I'm going with Skullgrin, his grey looks much better, more natural. So overall he's bought on sight!

I prefer the colors on Skullgrin as opposed to Darkmount. They look good in robot mode and they suit the half-track vehicle better that Darkmount'd blue !!

 

I see no need to choose between them. The mold is great and they both look great for different reasons. I already own Darkmount, and I have a Skullgrin waiting in my BBTS POL

Thanks. I just use 2 small desk lamps I got from target, one on each side. The bottom board is like a reflective coated piece of fiberwood or something. It was part of my works visual merchandising. And the back ground is actually the backing for one of my bookcases lol. I use the bottom shelf and place the board down and aim the lamps in. Also different settings on my camera help.

His head looks rather good. Definetly better than expected. May justify my purchase of him. Wished he could have gotten new weapons but we can't have it all.

 

Huh, I must admit I didn't think of that. Miner Megatron. Still, we've had a couple of white tank G1 Megatrons just in the past couple years. Meh, I still say.

 

Oh wow, Deceptigtar, thanks for those pictures! In your better lighting it seems he IS pinkish! Exactly the way I wanted it to be. I was really turned off by the dark red, but I'm REALLY glad to see this!

As I just got Darkmount, I'm now more pumped for this guy!

 

I like his paint scheme a lot more from this review then what I thought from earlier photos. The head is a little odd looking, but I'm glad to have a new head over just a repainted one. Thanks for the review.

 

I agree, the new pics make the figure look SO much better! However, I'm still not a fan of the head, and with both Christmas and all the sudden subsequent releases of other new Deluxe molds, I'll be perfectly happy with just Darkmount as an example of this mold.

 

For a repaint with a new head, this doesn't look bad at all, in fact, I'm starting to think it looks better than Straxus.

 

Tempted. The 3mm weapons may push me over the edge since they're all black and will look great on anybody.

 

The fact that I think Darkmount is an excellent toy, I love Skullgrin's colors (they look better, IMO, than Darkmount's), and I think Skullgrin's head is awesome, leads me to believe that once I have this toy in-hand it'll be one of my all-time favorite Deluxes. Skullgrin just looks wicked.
