    UPDATE 19/09/14

Second draft's arrived, last batch of tweaks underway:

    ________________________________

So, I finally got Generations Nightbeat, the figure I've ben waiting for since the Classics line began... and since he's based on the IDW Bumblebee mould, he's not exactly what ye'd call perfect. What is a boy to do?

Get myself on Shapeways, and design some upgrade kits for him!

The first one is designed to make him stand about a centimetre taller, so he's roughly at eye-height with RTS Jazz. The second, since it's one I saw quite a few people wishing for, is a kit to give him his original G1 chestplate. I've ordered the prints today, so I shall update this thread when I get them, and can show off my upgraded Nightbeat figure!

Good stuff. Any way of moving the backpack higher to get it hidden behind the torso too?

As far as I can tell, not without unpinning it and doing a load of heavy mods. It will sit a bit higher naturally, though, with the height kit, since that torso section it's mounted on won't slide down as far (and I designed in some flappy panels on the side, that should fold in to fill in the gaps in the torso, and hopefully hide a chunk of the back kibble when viewed front-on).

    EDIT TO ADD:
Also, I might cut off the sticky-out bits from the hood section, and glue them onto the wheel-arch sections (i.e. the shoulders), to streamline the torso a bit more, but we'll see.

does that help with the torso never locking in place and being all floppy by any chance?

Hopefully (although I'll need to check that when the print arrives in the post)... :p

I've modelled in the same little tabs the stock chest section has, that are supposed to lock it in to the waist (and actually do, really securely, on the Nightbeat version of the mould I've got in front of me), but they won't work in the height increase kit (hence why that has little tabs on the flappy bits that should grip the "ribs" on the inner bit of the chest assembly.

Gimme a sec, I'll grab a pic to show what I mean...

    And pic grabbed:

Oh, and in case anyone noticed, I may have flipped the chestplate horizontally, so it follows his MTMTE design instead of strictly sticking to the G1 toy.

What can I say, my favourite bot is in my favourite comic. Had to be done... :p

Stop getting me excited about this, it's not due to be shipped till September 3rd!! :p

If this kit works out as well as I hope, then I have plans for a second, slightly different set of upgrade kits for the same mould. Same basic idea and connectors, but the body shape will be more... feminine. ;)

I'm guessing for a head similar to Nightbeat's but with singular eyes rather than a goggle visor. ;)

Looking forward to ordering this kit. The Bumblebee mould I have will have to be altered now to slim it out for the Roman goddess of wisdom.

Funny you should mention that... ;)

I'll warn you now, though, the second chestplate I'm planning on designing will be based on the other character who had Nightbeat's toy head, since I'm really hankering after having Siren in my collection, as a fembot... :p

    Thanks very much! :D

If your kits work out do you think you could make a more g1ish chest for goldbug?

Hmm, I reckon it'd certainly be feasible, although it wouldn't protrude forward as much as a real roof-chest would, since the clearance under that alt mode is tiny.

But yes, not a bad idea at all, that, I shall have a look into it once I've tested the Nightbeat chest!

    EDIT TO ADD:
Thinking about it, it'd also work on the IDW Bumblebee mould, to make his chest look more G1. Definitely an interesting idea, that...
