Inspired by Jazz from "Transformers" (2007)

This is the first custom I've done that I'm comfortable sharing with you. It's obviously not wonderful by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm reasonably happy with it. I guess that's what matters most, since it was for me, not for sale.

Anyway, this falls into the "obvious repaint" department - switching Jazz from his G1 color scheme to an approximation of his "Bay" color scheme. I had an extra Jazz after losing the blaster on the first one I purchased, and I thought the mold would look really cool in silver. However, I didn't really get to work until one of my cats knocked Jazz off a counter and chipped one of his windows. (Hence why the windows are missing.)

Sadly, this project proved to be more challenging than I expected because the silver paint I had on hand didn't "stick" very well to the white surfaces on the toy, even after a lot of sanding. I worked around this by putting down a grey base coat and then putting a silver coat on top of that. Were I to do it all over again, and money wasn't an issue, I would get fresh silver paint or try other methods (e.g. spray paint).

Another challenge was working around the headlights. They're only removable via pins, and I'm really bad at removing pins, so I thought it was safer to mask them off.

The reddish-brown color is hand-mixed. It's not an exact match to the color on "Bay" Jazz, but it's a pretty close approximation.

And finally, a lesson I learned the hard way: where not to paint. (Or where to sand a lot if you're going to paint.) The rear doesn't fit together as well as it should. Maybe one day I'll disassemble the rear and fix this problem, but for now I'm OK with it.

Maybe one day I'll be able to get some Autobot insignia Reprolabels - that would be a nice finishing touch. But like I said, I'm reasonably happy with it.

You are all too kind. Who knows, maybe someone more talented & experienced than I can take this concept and run with it. The Generations Jazz mold is one of the best TF toys ever, IMO - almost perfect, really.
