So this custom is using the 2013 Generations Bumblebee figure. I did some sculpting on the head with Aves Fixed Sculpt to look like a blend of the cartoon and toy head. My goal is to try and get a shiny, reflective gold chrome and so I tried using gold chrome nail powder. The process was messy and kinda tedious; after spraypainting you put some gel topcoat on, then rub in the powder and adding another layer of gel coat and hitting it with a UV light. You can check out my process video here:

The result was not quite as shiny as hoped, he's more like a glittery bowling ball from the 70's! He's retro, man!! So, not chromey, but definitely shinier than gold spraypaint!!

    Hasbro really should've made this.

You may not be totally happy with it, but I gotta say, looks pretty damned sweet. That head really is a perfect blend of the two.

If you're not happy with it, just mask the windows.and spray with Tamiya spray paint. It'd also be a darker gold, which is closer to the G1 toy.

Whoa. That gold powder finish is gorgeous. It doesn't look like chrome, but it damned sure looks like a lot of the old GPS-prone plastics. I could see this being used EXTENSIVELY on people's customs of late-G1 guys like Pyro and Black Zarak.

EDIT: disappointed to find out how much of the surface detail it ends up filling in... but still, for big chunks of relatively low-detail, like altmodes....

The paint went on really thick, losing some details but the shininess looks great!

Thanks for the feedback and Yeah, I note the detail issue in my video - the process has multiple layers....the paint went on evenly and fine, the gel topcoat goes on twice for the powder, and really blotted out the details :-/ I had to go back and shave off more for all the seams after I was done so it would still transform - didn't realize how much more the topcoat would add.

Turned out great, and looks way better than the plain, cheap looking Bunglebee (no, I didn't misspell it...). I probably hate this Bumblebee mold the most, but if Hasbro had done this as Goldbug, and it looked like yours, I probably would have bought it. As it is, I may get around to repainting and modifying the OS KO version of this Bumblebee for conversion into Goldbug at some point.

    Either way, very nicely done!
