Very, very cool. I like the weaponry on this guy - the "infamous clips" are a nice touch too!

Thanks for the review! Darkmount is bought on sight when he gets here!

I love the M17 reference for his first appearance in the comics. Those are always nice touches that Hasbro throws in once in a while.

If you know the original name Straxus, then you should know what they're shooting for with the third mode. The execution is another matter and I'd have to have the toy in hand to see how well I like it. From what I've seen so far it's close enough for the Marvel Cybertronian flying gun mode homage for my tastes. But I can see for the non-comic fanboy this working as well as, say, B'Boom's third mode.

Those ankles are a killer for me. Ball joint on the inside ankle, really? Man, that is TF toy just waiting to fall over.

His "third mode" actually kind of reminds me of the siege tanks from Starcraft. If anyone here has played SC, then you might know what I mean.

Yeah those ankles...Reeealy worrisome about those ankles. If this guy's mass release ends up with a lot bad QC on those ankles, I could see a lot of fans dubbing him to be the same as Deluxe Galvatron 2.0
His transformation is still rather neat though. Little disappointed that his pickaxe is in two pieces. I was thinking you'd just pop it out and the picks would have been folded up along with sides. Oh well...Cant have everything.

Still wondering if I should wait and see what Skullgrin will look like.

Those ankles look weak, but the rest of the toy is pure win.

Looks like a very neat figure. The amount of articulation in toys, particularly smaller-scale ones, these days is truly amazing, and I think ROTF really deserves a lot of credit for that. I think I'll wait to see what clever repaint/retool Hasbro may do with this mold.

I don't like the little windscreens on the tank mode. The big turret and the front wheels makes it look like a relatively small tank, but then there's that teeny tiny little cockpit. Might have to rub the paint off of that and pretend it's just an access panel.

A Skullgrin repaint with a new head was shown at the Botcon Designers' Panel. No photos allowed though. And Skully's original alt mode has LOADS in common with Darkmount's.

Great review, it sucks having to wait for such an awesome figure. Did anyone else notice the tri-force on his back kibble?

Well, Straxus DID debut in early 1986, just as the world was in the grips of Zelda fever. :lol

This figure looks really nice. I can't wait to get him. Also jonesin to see Skullgrin.

He also make me hope that we get a Jhiaxus sometime soon. Although I might just repurpose HFTD Terradive for that.

It's not really a tank though, its a mobile artillery gun.

That said, I really like this guy. Not sure which of the planned uses for this mold I should get though. Anyone that attended botcon: Did the retool look any better or should I shoot for this one?
