Downs, executions, meat shields... all of that? Gone. Executions in particular, at least to me, have always been a staple of Gears. Not to mention this also eliminates the strategy that downing entails. And there's no reason to use shotguns anymore; just spray away with rifles and you're golden.
I'll probably pick it up for the story and leave it at that. I didn't hear about no more executions. So I have lost faith in multiplayer.

I read all of this last night as it was posted on the Gears forums. All of my excitement for the new multiplayer just got curb stomped (No wait, you cant do that anymore without dbno, right?). How on earth would they even think of removing the DBNO mechanic? Its been there since day 1 and is probably one of the last features that keeps Gears MP from being a lonewolf game. Sure, you can combine your fire and cordinate your attacks, but thats the same for pretty much every MP experience, but the DBNO was one of the elements that made Gears so special.. No more curb-stomps, executions, meatshields, revives.. This makes the Execution gametype pointless as well. The mode where most of the hardcore Gears players started. What really bothers me is that they're keeping it in the campaign! Then why on earth not add it to the various MP modes, except FFA of course since you're on your own in that gametype. Its sad to see what Gears of War is turning into. The Meatshield and shotgun/assault rifle combo dosnt make it better either, but I'll take that if we could just get our DBNO back.. That's my thoughts on the matter. Guess I'll be playing some classic Gears instead.
Unless Epic is really stubborn about it, I doubt they won't add it back in. I've barely seen any positive reactions towards this, and the backlash is so huge that they pretty much have to give in. Admittedly I'm still getting it either way, even though it's an incredibly stupid move. The only thing that would make me consider passing is if they removed bots. Which, at this point... well, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.
I really shouldnt buy it either, but Im positive that the campaign will be a blast. Same for Overrun. But you know me Mecha, Im a multiplayer guy when it comes to Gears of War, so this feels like quite the retro-charge in the back to me. Oh God those horrible Gears of War puns.
So wait, you can't play as Locust in multi now? Female Onyx Guard + Tai Returns + Epic Points & Introduction of Red COG vs Blue COG Epic, what the fuck are ya doin?! Edit: And apparently their reasoning for this is that "no one liked playing as Locust". Bull. Shit.
Like I said before... no wonder Cliffy B and co. left. They KNEW the reaction towards all this was gonna be a shitstorm. I'm just waiting for them to announce bots/Horde/Beast are gone so I can say I'm 100% out.
Its official. They're trying to kill Gears of War. Im cancelling my preorder tomorrow. They're not getting my money. I play Gears of War not "insert generic third person shooter title" here. At best I'll buy the game used so Epic Games/People Can Fly wont see a dime from me..

Reading the comments in this thread is really killing my interest in this game. Well that and the horribly lacking emotion from Beards face in the last trailer posted. I'm probably just going to watch a walkthrough online for the story and not even bother getting this. Too many damn FPS trying to copy each other.
The depression in this thread is nothing compared to that of the Epic Forums. Now that's the definition of negativity. But I cant really blame people for feeling backstabbed by the developers to be honest. Also.. he's name is "Baird" not Beard..
but. but one of my fondest memories was the first time I ripped a guys arm off and slapped him repeatedly... I was LOLing the whole time it happened, and now its gone with Team Locust! Therons were my favourite characters to play as in MP!
Yeah I'm steering clear of there just in case there's some minimal chance something peeks my interest. I don't even play multiplayer and this is a big WTF REALLY moment. What next they replace crouch runs normal FPS sprinting. Good googly moogly I always get his name wrong :facepalm.
