Gametrailers.com - GT Countdown - Top 10 Fighting Games
EDIT: DOA deserves to be in there, Killer Instinct deserves to be shoved off in to obscurity for good... ugh too much wrong to list
i'll agree with #1. i think smash bros was sorely overlooked. i've got a bunch of problems in the middle. yeah. no one ever agrees with any lists anyway.
Its a top of fighting franchises/series' and thought it was real good, can't say I disagree
If they quantified it... maybe I would "agree" but it was just "10 fighting games based on... nothing".
How could some of the most interesting, well realised and excellent fighters just not get a mention?
Where is Garou: Mark of the Wolves?
I kinda agree, i'm mad at Tekken's placement but that is because it's my 2nd favorite after Street Fighter. Can't believe Killer Instinct made the list
Yes - SF, Marvel, KOF, Shodown, VF, GG
OK - Tekken
Meh - Sould Calibur, MK
Bitch Please - Killer Instinct
Killer Instinct? I don't expect to agree with lists, and they're fun to check out, but I hate when it's all over the board with little criteria as to why something is where it's at. Killer Instinct had two titles, with one slightly remixed N64 version, and the series didn't live on. It should have been replaced by DOA or Smash Bros. Everything else I can understand being on the list, but I may have shifted the placement around a bit.
Killer Instinct I can agree with, Guilty Gear doesn't belong there either but the rest do. Which others don't you agree with?
I will add....King of Fighters Rules!!!
Because there is only ten?
But yeah I don't agree with the list either.
The entire cop-out of grouping series in there. Man up and split that stuff up, then come back. It's dumb putting every Mortal Kombat in there when only 2 and 3 were any good.
Every King of Fighters? The 3D ones were... not good. They practically just listed every fighting franchise with a semi-recent release (bar KI) and called it a day
Well i'm going to compile my own list.
10. Mortal Kombat 2
9. Marvel vs Capcom 2
8. King of Fighter '98
7. Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition
6. Virtua Fighter 2
5. Dead or Alive 3
4. Street Fighter IV
3. Street Fighter Alpha 3
2. Tekken 3
1. Capcom vs SNK 2
What, no Rise of the Robots?
I keed, I keed.
No Fighting Vipers?
*ducks thrown objects*
why all the hate for killer instinct? if that game had never come out you probably wouldn't be seeing the crazy 90 hit combos and insane flashiness of the versus series. It was a decent fighter with a lot going for it so I don't see why all the hate for it.
I do agree though that this series groups the games far too vaguely though. Garou MOTW was not a kof game, yet they grouped it in there. Also they grouped every street fighter game together.
Ok, King of Fighters should be much higher...
Also no Time Killers?
Hey, what about Toshinden- it's the first 3d fighter everyone owned. *ducks*
Toshinden deserves to be updated I think. The old guy with the giant claws was pretty cool. I don't really remember the gameplay being that great, but with todays consoles an update might be fun.
And if were listing horrible games:
Mace the dark ages
star wars motk
It might be worth noting that the list is called "Best Fighting Game Series"
That said, I pull Guilty Gear and Killer Instinct and replace them with the Smash Bros. series and the DOA series.
My final list:
10: Mortal Kombat (the gimmicks don't make up for its weaknesses)
9: Samurai Showdown (innovative series that has been passed by and passed on)
8: King of Fighters (This series could make a huge jump with XII)
7: Dead or Alive (The first couple of games seemed like just another fighting game but the latter installments have really polished the series up)
6: Virtua Fighter (It's not as flashy as some of the other series are, but that's part of its charm)
5: Smash Bros. (Under the fan service, there's a decent and mostly balanced system.)
4: Vs. (F*** the Knicks!! This series was the ultimate in fan service and over the top action. It may have been ranked higher if it wasn't a bit unbalanced.)
3: Tekken (While other series were struggling with the move to 3-D [SF E-X, anyone], this series showed how it was done.)
2: Soul Caliber (A great series that takes on some of the best qualities of each of the other games on this list and still shines on its own.)
1: Street Fighter (Duh. Since SF2, this series has been the measuring stick that all fighting games are judged against.)
Honorable Mention: Karate Champ (Long before fighting games took over the world, we were in the arcade playing mind games with our friends for the elusive "Point." Only being an 80's arcade cabinet, it usually sounded like "Woint")
Separate names with a comma.
