In contrast to the other thread, let's talk about games that haven't aged well.

    These are my opinions though.

-Goldeneye: It honestly was enjoyable back in the day, but in an age of halos, mondern warfares, etc. It just doesn't have the spark it did when me and my friends played it countless nights oh so long ago.

-Narc(nes): This was another fun game for me , but when compared to snes game that I later played, it's just not the same.

Maybe I'm just growing older and have been taking things for granted, or something. These games definatley are good, but they just seem kind of meh.

One last game before I forget.

X-Men (nes): Then again, come to think about it, this game wasn't ever that good, just an insanely difficult rehash of Gauntlet.

The original Doom (and it's many copycats) immediately comes to mind. Myst is another one.

Metal Gear 8-bit series and Metal Gear Solid on Playstation. As much as I love these games, they been vastly improved upon to the point they just aren't as much fun anymore.

I think a lot of people cling on to No Mercy because of the nostalgia. It was the best wrestling game for the time, but now I find it incredibly slow, limiting and the transitions aren't realistic.

    Co-fucking-sign.

Such bad platform design elements that looking back, I'm super happy I was a Nintendo kid back then.

Desert Strike - not only the gameplay, but the storyline nowadays seems a little distasteful.

Also most fighting games for the NES - they all seem to play pretty much the same.

Yes and no. A lot of the earlier ones are rather rough, trying too hard to show off the new 3D gameplay, rather than focusing on the actual gameplay itself (FFVII was particularly bad about this. In retrospect, it's got a bazillion different minigames apparently just so the developers could show off their new 3D toys).

But towards the latter end of the system's life, developers seemed to be taking a lot better advantage of the system's greater processing power, to do some very great things, and by that point, 3D was being properly treated as another art medium, rather than a gimmick.

Outside of Final Fantasy, the system had Tales of Eternia, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, and Valkyrie Profile, and probably a number of others that I'm forgetting. They've all aged quite well, IMO.

After consideration, that game has actually aged pretty well. I'm just out of practice.

I'm gonna risk getting shot and say most FPS genre games. Even modern ones. To me they're so stuck in a hole. Now, some try new things, and that's great, but then you get a 'standard' fps. And it's just DooM with graphics and physics. Where's the evolution?

I actually find most RPG's are pretty easy to revisit, since the gameplay was never too dependent on the technology. Even FF1 is enjoyable in an addicting way.

I personally find a lot of early 3D action and platform games to be some of the worst aged, even the higher rated ones. For one, the controllers weren't up to snuff yet on the consoles, and two the camera systems were terrible. Plus, like I said in the other thread, the technology had a hard time producing clear and understandable visuals.

About 85% of the N64 game collection. The most obvious titles such as Zelda have aged well but pretty much everything else looks and plays like crap. Polygonal graphics always look far more dated than sprite based games though.

I think Perfect Dark to be the best example, even with the new HD repaint its actual gameplay doesn't hold up at all.

I'd say about 98% is more accurate, and I don't think it's a matter of aging well either, it was crap back then as well. I think the 3DO had more quality titles than the N64.

Re: Your sig - I had no idea what that was when I saw it until downloading a couple videos of PSN this weekend. Looks like it'll be fun.

anything on the Atari 2600 okay okay easy target.

The Dragon warrior/quest series It became dated as soon as Final fantasy came to be. and Unlike FF I the original Dragon warrior is better off left alone.
