Sucks to see yet another retailer hit this hard and having people lose their jobs right before the holidays :(  I've got friends there that just heard the news yesterday...we thought it was just a couple stores but 200 out of 680 is a pretty bit hit.

Game Crazy closing 200 locations in October

"Joystiq has learned that retailer Game Crazy plans to close 200 of its approximately 680 locations at the end of October. Sources working at Game Crazy stores attached to Hollywood Video locations have told us that the movie rental chain will remain open after their stores' closures.

Game Crazy's official statement on the matter: "Movie Gallery, Inc. is currently operating in an unprecedented consumer/retail environment. In order for us to continue to best serve our millions of customers across North America we're addressing underperforming stores and ensuring that there is sufficient [return on investment] associated with each of these stores going forward. The vast majority of our stores will be unaffected by these efforts."

For those who've placed a pre-order at a Game Crazy, it would be advisable to check if that location will still exist at the end of the month. We are currently working on obtaining a list of locations affected."

Sux and I've been trying to support them too, especially since their used prices can be up to 10-15 bucks less than gamestop. I just got a member card from them too. This does suck. They just launched an awesome App for the Iphone that lets you see and add the value of your trade-ins.

Well that sucks. If mine goes away it means I will have to start using Gamestop. :(  I hate Gamestop.

I don't wish ill on either of them because I also have friends who work at GS, but I really was hoping GC would have some staying power. As a whole (and no, I don't mean this applies to every store) GC's staff has been easier to talk to and don't tend to talk down to you.

Not just because I'm a Gamestop manager, but the industry as a whole NEEDS Gamestop AND Gamecrazy. Look at the selection of NEW games at either...my local Targets and Walmarts carry about 20-30 new games for each system and THAT'S IT...having the specialty game stores allows us to have a LOT more variety.

Play N Trade just doesn't have a good business model IMHO (I've seen several locations open and close very quickly and since store credit doesn't transfer between stores I've seen a LOT of angry people) and the mom n pop stores are a mixed bag (If you REALLY want to see a rude store staff that makes even the worst Gamestop story I've heard seem mundane I can point you to one of our local mom n pop shops...)

Well the gamestops here in Austin aren't too bad, but I know the GM and he's a slave-driver, so they get slapped if they piss off the customers

Oddly, at least the one around here the people seem snobbier and ruder than any of the Gamestops. I hardly ever go in there, but I also hope they don't go out of business. GS needs the competition.

Man, I love that store. I hope some still stay open around me. I found some amazing stuff at those stores. We have about 11 Gamecrazy stores here.

I wish there's a Game Crazy store around here; we got nothing but Gamestops.

I've never seen a Game Crazy, either. I didn't even know they existed until someone here mentioned them a month or two ago.

Hopefully the one near here doesn't close down. The people who work there are nicer then the GS around here, and they don't ask me if I'm skipping school even if the same person has seen me before, and I've answered before.

I used to work at one down in Cincinnati. Definately a fun store to work at and better than Gamestop's around here.
