After watching the first few episodes of Transformers: Headmasters, it seems to me that Galvatron seems far more sane than he did in the US G1 cartoon. Is it just me, or does this seem to be the case to others? If so, any thoughts as to why he returned to sanity?

'cos the Japanese didn't give a damn about previous characters, and focused all of their attention on the new ones *shakes fist angrily*

Or perhaps when Optimus Prime released the wisdom of the ancients from the Matrix it helped to restore some of Galvatrons sanity

I think its partially this and like the other poster said, they were focused on the new characters. Even in the US Headmasters 3 parter, Galvatron actually is very methodical in taking over Cybertron and trying to crash it into Earth, to destroy the two big Autobot strongholds.

Anyone know how Galavatron acted in the Japanese dub of the American cartoon?

    and the Americans didn't?
That pretty much happened every year.

I think when he got blasted into space with Zarak he found out what it was like to have a woman, nag nag nag! So he picked up drinking to relax his issues.

I think Galvatron was still pretty crazy - his ultimate plan was to merge with the Earth to become a new Unicron, after all, and his artist's interpretation of the merged form was ugly as heck.

he was just pretending sanity so nobody would suspect his ultimate plan to turn himself into a Unicron-wannabe thing.

its a known fact that in TROOP part 3 when prime released the matrix's wisdom it made Galvatron normal again. thats why he shook primes hand and wasnt crazy anymore.

The Japanese INGNORE rebirth because its crap and was only made by Hasbro because they wanted to kill off the Transformers TV show while Japan continued it with Headmasters/masterforce ect ect

In headmasters galvatron is sane again because of Prime releasing the Matrix's wisdom and even prime says 'were all alittle wiser now'

The Rebirth was quite good, I thought. The cut from five to three episodes means it rattles along at a fair old pace, and doesn't go off on a tangent like Five Faces Of Darkness did. It wasn't made to kill off the TV show, audience numbers for the cartoon had shown a marked downturn following the movie, so what was planned as a season four opener was hastily rewritten to close the series. Available budgets meant that the planned five parter was then cut down to three parts.

i just treated the japanese series as a different entity altogether, with their own take on things, so galv's sanity didn't register with me! cool that so many of you recognised the link with the Matrix energy being released at the end of season 3!
