G2 Megatron was a tank with purple and green camouflage, but the G2 cartoon is only reruns of the G1 cartoons (cybernet space cube/cgi if you want to actually count this as a difference). Why a tank for the toys? Did megatron ever appear in any cartoon as a tank besides the latest animated series?
Because at that point Hasbro could no longer, legally, make a realistic looking hand gun for an alt. mode.
transformers armada had a tank megatron, i think that is it.....transtech megatron was going to be a tank, then there is robotmaster's reverse convoy (which is the hero megatron mold from g2 with a double sided megatron/convoy head)
They did that with classics Megs and now they can't use that mold either. Basically, anything that can confuse a police officer into thinking its an actual weapon and shoot you is a no go.
this! toy safety laws changed due to kids/people getting shot by cops who where unable to identify a toy gun from a real one also why G1 Galvatron was a cannon rather than a gun although unless i am remembering wrong it had a hand gun mode but that wasn't its primary alt mode and as it looked alot like a phaser from the original Star Trek it would be hard to mistake for a real gun
As much as I love my G1 Megs, i am happier that his new incarnations are not guns. for a cybertronian gladiator/warlord/decepticon leader, i think a tank is more appropros. the one nagging thought I and many others here have had, "why the hell would you transform into something that you need Starscream's help using?" I love G1 Megs, but if they can avoid fuzzy areas and just make a great alt mode for him that works, then i am ok. {although, i'd kill to see a 1930s era TF line with Megatron as a Chicago Typewriter....}
I'm on board with the 1930s era line as well. I've really been wanting an Optimus Prime styled Pencil Sharpener like I used to see in school with the metal wheel that turned for different pencil widths and the hand crank. WTF?
Chicago Typewriter was a tompson submachine gun. i'm not convinced a pencil sharpener alt-mode prime would be able to put up much of a fight.
This is incorrect. Galvatron not being a realistic handgun was completely down to aesthetic reasons rather than toy laws. The regulations that don't permit G1 Megs in the US were not that quickly passed (Galvatron was 1986; Megs was still available at retail in 1985 - and still available by mail order in 1986). Although I love my G1 Megs toy, I actually prefer the idea of Megatron as a tank than handgun.
Hmmm, the more you know, huh? Then I'll change my satirical Pencil Sharpener Prime to a more fitting one. How about Patty-wagon Prime?
