would any of you guys rather have a collection of more of the japanese exclusives, high tier american bots, or would you be happy with a couple of rarities like this and the green ramulus, G2 stunticons?

That's a terrific question--we all have widely varied perspectives and areas of focus on what should or shouldn't make it into our collections.

To answer your question, it's more important for me to have a complete set of legitimate releases. For me, stuff like the unreleased G2 "never happened", so they don't seem like a real part of the TF universe. Strange as it seems, this isn't something that would even cross my mind to want to have as part of my collection.

However, I sure do appreciate the historical value, and the difficulty, time, and money involved in tracking down stuff like this--and this one certainly is a beautiful specimen. Congrats to whomever gets it.

For me, most of my "collector nostalgia" centers on G2...that's where I officially went from 'casual fan' to 'completist collector' :)  I would gladly trade a good size chunk of my collection for the unreleased G2 stuff and be more than happy...I was also fortunate enough to go to Toy Fair the year the unreleased G2 was shown so that just adds to my interest....unfortunately they just go for more than I can condone spending right now...

    lol

that is beautiful piece though. How many other g2 protectobots have popped up?

good luck doubleclouder w/ your monster bid. very nice piece. senuserat always has really nice stuff, i just feel bad for his MOSC beachcomber and bumblebee, the clone KOs have really driven down the price on those.

more pictures of the unreleased g2 protectobots MOSC:

the bickmore's have more cool prototype stuff on their site, including an AWESOME unproduced diaclone truck thing, so cool!

i never liked g2, the color schemes and sticker choice made them seem so bootleg, but can appreciate the pieces for their rarity.

I think I'd go with Japanese exclusives over the G2 tf's although I wouldn't mind owning them.

I dont think they are wasting their cash. this figure is right up there with the rarest of the rare and will never go down in value, and the sky is the limit on how much more these will increase in value as time goes on. so no, i wouldnt by far call it wasting their money, maybe like making an investment. usuall the people that win these auctions really dont have a problem with money anyways.

this figure alone is worth more than most collections out there and way more sought after.

I don't know about that. In all honesty we are going to get to a point where a lot of the older fans will be gone, replaced by an even younger crowd...we see it even now where a LOT of the "G1 kids" have been growing up and are taken away by life's other priorities, eventually most of the nostalgia will be for post-BW toys and people will hardly remember G2. Only a handful of fans will care about the unreleased rarities, especially as the sheer number of vintage figures will look even more impossible to chase as the line ages. I think that once the fans that remember G2 leave the hobby interest for these guys may actually decrease...

i agree, 1977 star wars figures used to be worth a little bit of money before 1997
