Was there a storyline in plan after issue 12? On the last pages a green monster was introduced and was giving hints to the Transformer's past.

Supposedly there was, and Simon Furman went a little bit farther with liege maximo in an "unofficial" novella called alignment. He's also said in interviews he considers alignment the end of that character's story.

Generation 2 had been assured 12 issues by Marvel, but no more than that - it would really have to prove itself through sales in order to be renewed for more issues. So, Furman wrote it so that issue 12 could be a decent "ending", if that didn't happen (and he also named Jhiaxus as a joking nod towards the situation - it sounds like "Gee, axe us."). But, it's pretty obvious that he had more ideas, and he does indeed tell the story of that green monster - the Leige Maximo - in an unofficial text story that he penned for the British convention, Transforce, called Alignment.

To save you time, however, OP, I'll let you in on a secret:

Alignment sucks. Luckily, it falls into fanfiction territory anyway.

Leige Maximo was better off ending his official story in the G2 comics, being all dark and menacing and mysterious. If only for the fact that you can do something interesting with the character in your own personal fanon.

Cause Furman certainly didn't do that in his! :)

Simon Furman seems to have a habit of setting up stories he doesn't finish completely due to books being cancelled/taken off the book. He had to rush the end of Marvel G1, G2 even though it was planned as 12 issues seemed rushed at the end (then the swarm came so forget about the G2 Decepticon story that's been building up)and ended with the Leige Maximo cliffhanger, had to rush the end of Armada to make room for Energon, never got to finish Energon, Never got to finish War Within 3, had to rush out Revelations to make way for AHM.
Hopefully one day he'll get to finish a story, and it will be epic.

    He did finish several stories.

The Unicron one in issue 75.

    Underbase.

    Man of Iron.

Several UK ones. Including several annuals.

    Target 2006.

All his IDW run are self contained stories in a larger, ongoing story.

The fact that those are all forgotten, disliked, and/or tossed aside as worthless would lead one to believe that, no, it would not indeed be epic.

Cause they all kind of suck. ;)

The reason why people like and remember the unfinished Furman stories, I believe, is because they prefer to finish the ending how THEY want to finish it.
