i was just mulling this over; in the cartoon/comics they tended to show decepts having the upper hand most of the time, if only for drama.

but if we go by g1 the toy line, who do you think truly had the upper hand? considering the fact that generally the decepts were outnumbered.

Decepticons have often been outnumbered, but I always take it this way :

They are fewer, but more powerful, so it takes 2 Autobots to trash a Decepticon. :p

Who had the advantage? Why, the desolate one, of course. Transformers are a curse of evil!

The logic of "who had more" is kinda foggy because of the number of things Autobots could and couldn't do - sometimes they could fly, sometimes they were stuck with walking and driving, sometimes Skyfire was around, sometimes not - so it's difficult, at least for me, to choose a relative upper hand.

With the AMAZING versatility the Decepticons had at building stuff, I'd say that, if they were given enough opportunity and headway, they WOULD HAVE had the upper hand. I mean, hell, they turned New York into a cyber city for a while...although I'm lost on how that helps them "conquer the universe."

    Uuuuuuuuuuuh...Advantage: Kremzeek.

Well, the Autobots used less fuel which meant if they survived long enough they'd simply outlive the Decepticons... which seems like a massive advantage to me.

The Autobots had the major advantage in numbers, but you have to remember that they were by and large civilians forced into military service in order to survive. The Decepticons were relatively few, but they were built for battle. The Autobots were a bunch of scientists, engineers, and workers armed with guns. Having larger numbers was basically what kept them from being wiped out.

"The Autobot's on the verge of extinction fought valiantly to stay alive..."

Directly from More Than Meets The Eye Part 1.

Advantage, the Decepticons, they were larger, often more powerful and had greater numbers. Look at all the seeker clones they had. Decepticons by far had the upperhand.

The Autobots were far more courageous, hense the reason they win in the end.

The Autobots had the advantage not due to numbers, but due to the psychological impact of having both Prime and the Dinobots on their side. In most cases the Decepticons would flee the field of battle at the mere sight of these two(Prime and the Dinobots) on the battlefield.

    KA:

Taking just 1984 before the new characters started piling up, the Autobots had the advantage in numbers. However, only Cliffjumper, Windcharger, Bluestreak, Sideswipe, and Sunstreaker were classed as soldiers. Mirage, Bumblebee, Brawn, Hound, and Jazz were combat specialists, Prowl and Trailbreaker would theoretically be Prime's brain trust, and the rest would be basically in support roles. Of course in the cartoon everybody just shot at the Decepticons.

You know, the fact that the Autobots had security and support personnel, not to mention a field medic, would actually be a considerable advantage. The Cons just had Soundwave and his tapes to do everything like that.

A lot of the Autobots' numerical advantage is of course wiped out by the heavier armament of the Cons, and that (except for very early on) most Autobots weren't able to fly unassisted. Much Autobot weaponry would be hard to use effectively against a foe in the air. Once again, in the cartoon they just shot lasers at them anyhow, but even there the Cons seemed to be consistently superior in strength and toughness.

Let's also remember that the Autobots attempted to avoid damaging noncombatants and their property, and did not enslave or plunder humanity as their enemies did. This gave the Cons a certain advantage, too.

SkyLynx always just came out of nowhere sometimes to save the day..........I hated that. But what I hated most was when the decepticons had the Upper Hand and it was one of the 2 part ones "Watch next week to see what happens" AAAAAAHHHHHHH Those kept me coming back.

    Decepticons.

    Why?

They didn't concern themselves with honour, integrity or the sanctity of other life.

I'll echo others and say the Decepticons had the upper hand, especially in the first season. They were stronger, more ruthless and built for fighting purposes. The Autobots' introduction of the Dinobots helped tip the scales in their favor, but then with the addition of Devestator the Decepticons came back out on top. In season 2, with all the combiners and Omega Supreme it see-saws back and forth, and obviously in season 3 the Autobots have the clear upper hand.

I always assumed that the decepticons were stronger individually and it took a greater force of autobots to take them down.

The 1984 Autobots had the sheer advantage of numbers.

Of course, that advantage was undermined by Optimus Prime regularly leaving half his army at home, and the Decepticons having numerous "extras" such as random purple Seeker or random yellow Rumble repaint in the early episodes.

I think the Autobots did, they had the stronger positive characteristics and personalities while the Cons had more of the negative features.

Decepticons were only fewer in action figure numbers. They have always had drone/clone armies. Insecticon & Purple seekers in G1. Vechicons In BM, Seacons in Masterforce just to name a few. Deceptions always under estimate, can't work well together and are too self-confident in their own abilities. The Autobots true strength is team work, and they never give up.

I vote decepticons. It was shown in season 2 that while the autobots were concerned with earth and cybertron the decepticons had connections on and control of other planets in the universe.

The Autobots have always had the upper hand because the writers refuse to let the Decepticons ever win.

Wasn't there a Marvel G.I. Joe book where Cobra win? It's more realistic like this and shows that the good doesn't alwys triumph, and that mirrors reality. They should have the occasional Decepticon winning story I think.
