I was thinking about picking up a G1 Whirl... Anybody have any thoughts about this guy? I know he was from another toyline but he looks pretty cool imo
he's alright. kinda weird looking. just make sure you get one that has tight arm joints otherwise his arms are very loosy goosy.
the arms can get very bad as megatronwp38 said, also the feet (runners) can be loose and he can fall over. this is still an awsome toy!!! Skinny as hell, but he shows the spirit of an age gone by, also, since he was from the same line as roadbuster, he has a diff. feel from many older TF's.
He was Ovelon Gazette in the Dorvack series from Takutoku toys. IMO he and Roadbuster are two of the better G1 toys. Also be careful of getting a discolored one because he has had this issue. If you buy it online make sure the pictures are nice, so you'll know what you are getting.
I've been really wanting to get Roadbuster and Whirl for quite awhile...I'm holding out for a decent ebay price, but I've yet to find one
I had both Roadbuster and Whirl - though they pretty much got destroyed from playing with them too much - ah the good ol' days. I know one of Whirl's runners got half snapped off, and I'm sure the multitude of removable weapon packs are long gone. And then of course <- Venom which was also made by Takatoku.
I got 2 Roadbuster MIB that's how much I love the toy. Still I wish I had gotten Whirl but it just looks too skinny and breakable that I don't want to spend $100 on MIB and have it break on me. I'd stick to Roadbuster instead.
I got the Pre Transformers Whirl, he may be diaclone, or the other thing people are talking about. He is pretty decent, except mine has a broken arm which I have to repair, and loose joints, and the chopper blade thingy is really loose. Make sure the chopper blade thingy isnt really loose, its a pain in the butt. For those wondering, he is basicly a darker blue, with a yellow chopper blade.
See that's the reason why I am hesitant to get it off Ebay. I don't think the seller will be 100% truthful about its conditions. Add to the fact that it's got lots of accessories, is G1, and not that many out there you'll be paying through the roof for a good one with everything. Too much trouble imo.
Here's the review I submitted to Tformers a while back. http://www.tformers.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=542 I like him quite a bit. Good figure.
I have them both and I can say that they are definitely worth getting a hold of. I have a pic of Whirl in robot mode on my link at the bottom. I bought mine firsthand off the shelves in the eighties. Roadbuster is my favorite of those two.
Whirl has perhaps the best helicopter mode of all Transformerdom. Unfortunately, he's a one-eyed stick figure of a robot. I think it's a cool toy, but I keep it in copter mode all the time.
Yeah he looks like that poor one eyed kitten than only lived for a few weeks. His chopper mode is cool like Airwolf , with little ski's awe
