G1 Wheeljack canopy color variant? Light Blue?

I recently won an auction (Transformers G1 Autobot Wheeljack 100% Complete w/tecs | eBay) for a G1 Wheeljack. When I got the figure, the canopy was actually light blue. It was 'conventionality' hidden by the flash of the camera on the ebay page. After doing some quick looking around online, I couldn't find if there was an actual legitimate version which had a light blue canopy. Has anyone heard of this before? If you want, I can try taking a picture of the figure when I get home. This wheeljack is a pre-rub.

The Diaclone Marlboro Wheeljack had a blue canopy. Never heard of the regular one having a blue one. KO maybe or just a cool variant.

    My variant knowledge is shaky.

The Marboor canopy is a MUCH darker blue, you'd easily notice it in the pic. Possibly a repro, but age does wierd things to plastic colors...

I'll try to take a picture of it tonight. Hopefully you guys can see it. The seller claims it was a mailaway. Does that make anymore sense?

Well WJ was avaialble as a mail away..... maybe there was a running change of some sort, perhaps because production shifted to another location?

Does anyone know: What color was the windshield on the early 90s version made for the euro market?

Wheeljack is one of the more recently bootlegged G1 toys made. There are a LOT of knockoff G1 Wheeljacks being sold on Ebay as "mint complete" originals.

I am not saying your toy is a bootleg. Obviously I don't have yours in hand so I can't comment on your sample's quality.

I also don't currently own any of the bootleg knockoffs. So I am not an expert on what differences to look for between a genuine original and a newwer bootleg. All I know is that there were a lot of knockoff Wheeljacks made in the recent times and many people have been fooled into buying them under the pretense that they are genuine originals.

Can anybody here give a more authoritative statement on what to look for when discerning knockoffs from the real thing?

Ok, I'm not trying to be the spelling police at all with this post, I just find it funny as hell. That just sounds like something Huffer would say, "Thanks a lot Wheelkack!":lol

there IS a light blue variation on G1 Wheeljack. i have it.

i also have the KO, and it's NOT light blue. There is a page somewhere that has all the variations on it somewhere. Freds variant page or something that lists it.

i THINK it has something to do with diaclone stock being packaged in Hasbro boxes.

It IS a documented variant. it USED to actually make it slightly more valuable, but these days he's just so darn expensive anyway

sorry for the typo. Thanks for noticing.

Anyway, I just found Fred's variant page and I can't seem to see where he talks about the color variant for the canopy: Variations: Everything Else Autobot

One of the diaclone Lancia variants had that light blue windscreen if I'm not mistaken.

That variant has been known for quite some time now. I am not a fan of it but it is definitely a cool piece.
