The G1 era is from 1984 to 1990 or 1991? From what years do you consider the toy's true life-line? When do you stop collecting at?

For me, the most memorable were from 1984-1987. Anything past that never got my attention span. Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks.

After 1987, it was over for me. I never understood the concept with Pretenders. What was that all about?

It's as simple as that, anything pre-G2 is G1.

There were no Transformer toys released in the US in 1991, and the G1 comic also ended that year. Europe had their exclusive Actionmasters that year, among some other miscellaneous releases... Japan had Battlestars and the Brave Fighbird series. In general, I'd say G1 petered out throughout 1990 to obscurity in 1991.

However, Draven's answer is the simplest and best. Anything that came out before G2 started is G1. For me, the heart of G1 is really the toys and characters of season 1&2 of the cartoon, but that's entirely subjective.

Where I'm concerned, the most memorable years were from 1987-1990. Bar a few exceptions (Soundwave, Shockwave, Stunticons, Predacons, some Insecticons), I never really bothered with anything before this period.

I remember after the movie came out and season 3 was on television, I was so depressed watching the series because everyone else was killed off for the new toy lines. It felt so alien and unfamiliar to me after that point.

I liked the new characters like Galvatron and the Predacons but totally missed all the characters of season 1 & 2.

Basically the G1 years(excluding Actionmasters),but I never really collect G1s because the price is so high plus the playability, well, kinda suck.

'84-'86 for me! I was pushing 16 in'86, so I started to reorganize my priority list. It looked something like this :

    1. Girls
    2. Girls
    3. Girls
    4. Girls
    5. Girls
    6. Play Guitar
    7. Play more guitar
    8. Play more guitar to get more girls
    9. Girls
    10. Collect Transformers

Clearly I made some foolish decisions!:thumb
