I question their choice of the "limit". Numbers I've seen estimated were that there were somewhere in the ballpark of 2000 Botcon sets made. So they have to get 3 out of 4 set owners to buy an add-on to sell that many. I just don't see that happening. Especially with a lot of people owning multiple sets.

Starting to save is one thing... I think people are just grasping for a ballpark figure here. There's a huge difference between $100 and $300.

there were only 1200 botcon main sets made, that number was announced quite awhile ago. so thats 300 extra sets for customizers.

Thank you. I am not the only one that understands what a buck will get you these days. Some people here talk about pricing as if they believe a Bajillion is a price amount. Note. A Bajillion isn't even a number but it is to little kids with no concept of money.

And for the record I understand mould costs because I've dealt with them directly in the past.

good point. if we're hypothetically talking 1500 of these kits, divided by the $80K (ballpark from an earlier post - just production) price might look good starting at like $53.30 each.
number of units has a lot to do with price. Factor in FP or any of the other companies, doing smaller, but more complex figures, typically, they run 10,000 units (almost 7 TIMES 1500) and their pricing is quite high, AND don't forget - they are overseas, which cuts costs a TON.

damn, that would be a lot of people customizing these. I suspect we *might* see 1 or 2 though...

I think 1500 is too many sets considering the BotCon run of toys. The good thing is that due to the higher production, the cost will be much lower than I originally feared. A good idea for G1 Uppers is to also sell an Autobot version (Rallybots with new head?) to deal with the higher numbers. Of course the Lockdown slot would be odd (maybe the Autobots offered him more money to join them) or Lockdown would be replaced with Blurr. In trailer mode, it would be painted like a fire truck instead.

I am sure alot of people want this set to make an autobot version if they don't have the stunticons. It seems they are going to make different head choices. If they were smart one would be an autobot.

With a different head they might be able to pitch it as Defensor.

good idea. once those injection molds are made/paid for, it's cheap and easy to drop in new plastic colors.

Yeah..everyone is... the price is a long way away considering they are working on a good prototype.

As for the number of sets made and sold, only time will tell.

I meant people using the NON-botcon molds of the toys. or who just repaint thier to look like the botcon, Like I did for Shadow Scyther.

there were 2,000 sets made including the bag sets. So factor that in, and that some will buy to keep MISB and another to display, I could for see 1,500 selling out.

Right; don't forget the bagged sets.

Depending on how this looks, I may grab one. Though it will make the aftermarket on the Botcon sets explode, as those toys look really good on their own without being combined. Would sorta feel bad combining them and letting those sculpts/decoes go to waste, of sorts.

For me, perfection on this set would be three configurations:

    Menasor mode
    Trailer mode
Weapons mode (for the individual robots)

Okay, absolute perfection would be having something for Toxitron too, since he's one of the team...

Just include a plunger in the set and I would be happy.

That's a great piece of reference, but how accurate/updated are those numbers? It looks to have a 1999 copyright.

Sigh* This never gets old, people deciding what the cost should be by looking at old data from non-applicable sources about an item they've never seen.
