Yeah, it's old info, but still a good read.

It should also make us thank our lucky stars that none of those early designs made it into production.

QFT! Although even as ugly as those designs were, if they'd been produced in a lower quantity they'd easily have been the holy grails of TF collectors and the highest priced TF toy on ebay.

Even with it's half-assed planet mode, the Armada/Energon Unicron was well worth waiting 20 years for.

absolutely correct. even though it was larger than the version we got, that ball-with-extremities look is beyond lame.

I don't believe there are too many new* molds that made it to prototype stage that didn't eventually get produced... a couple of G2 Spychangers, the Transtech stuff... anything else?

It makes sense, though - the cost associated with getting something to that stage of development must be staggering. Even if it's not right for release at that given time, it's probably on someone's list to dig out in the future (ala Air Attack Oprimus Primal).

*not counting the G2 stuff, which was either redecos of old molds or things that eventually got released in some form.

Thanks for the pointer. Prototypes, even poor ones, aren't cheap! ;)
