One of my biggest fears when collecting G1 is breaking the TFer during transformation. Let's face it, these toys are not MISB (for most of us anyway), so they have some age on them.

So at the NJCC I got G1 Defensor. Today, I finally decided to transform each individual piece. While Transforming, I got very scared. Why? I will tell you why, because the thing that tightens joints more then anything else is 20 year old dust stuck in combiners bots. Pulling the arms out I was being oh so careful while trying to apply the right amount of pressure. Luckily nothing broke! But it was scary.

Any scary G1 stories on your end?

I once pulled out the leg of an '84 G1 Bumblebee while transforming it, got scared, but it snapped back in position when I pushed it in, whew!

I also destroyed the rubsign of lone '85 red Cliffjumper, but that's not from transformation, but trying to align it, what was I thinking.

Went to transform the couple Aerialbots i have to show my son, and pulled the legs right off of Skydive. He still works as a leg, but it still kinda pissed me off... Maybe more if I had the rest of them.

No fear at all, those have been collecting dust on my shelves for years. J/K, I clean them up every now and then. If I'm going to transform one it going to be a classic figure.

The only figure that EVER scared me was my Lio Kaiser Kilbison.

That figure was GPS to the max; it's sad that such an awesome combiner is weakened by crappy materials :(

My only G1 collecting fears directly relate to my wallet.

Yeah, I get scared sometimes depending on the figure. Some are just more durable then others. This is why I don't really bother getting minty figures. I like them gently to well used. If one breaks, I don't get too worried about it unless its a high priced one. A lot of the parts are replacable too :)

Weren't there stories about people opening MISB Black Zaracks after recently acquiring them, only to find GPS destroyed the figure already? That's gotta be one of the scariest.

Other than KOs, my biggest fears are my prowls/silverstreak/jazz molds, as the hoods are very fragile.

True story though: I finally completed Monstructor. Had him on a shelf. Was rearranging the shelf, and dropped him 3 feet onto carpet. Slog shatters his side into like 3 pieces. God I was pissed. And I was in front of my mom at the time, so I couldn't swear....

I figured by now, they would have come up with a compound you can spray on the Gold plastic to harden it and keep it from breaking.

I mean, if not, then some one needs to start researching, they would make a pretty penny.

I never have that kind of fear with G1 toys. They're so damned sturdy. Recent TFs, on the other hand, I cringe while transforming for worry of snapping something off.

I havent broken anything since my childhood days either.

Sure some sure as hell do feel like there gonna break and I'm sure someday one will. I'll take the chances since I like to put stickers on them, fix them, transform them, etc.

I will tell the most unnerving thing is popping connected pieces apart or tight racheting though, some do scare you.

G1 TF's certainly have parts that can break easily: The Prowl/Smokescreen/Bluestreak mold comes to mind with their delicate roofs, and the Seeker gun missiles, but on the whole, G1's were built pretty solidly, especially the non-Diaclone / non-Microman original Transformers molds from 1986 onwards. I don't really rate the Scramble City combiners as very delicate or breakable: they seem pretty solid.
My biggest fear is still losing parts, and that is something which is all too easy to do with G1 Transformers!
