Seems like only Japan is doing it these days. They had a very nice insert for Car Robots, and Henkei has something similar.
I can honestly say that the majority of my desire to collect transformers was due to those catalogs and a lot of druel as a kid.
absolutely. Even long after I'd mostly gotten bored with the figure itself, I'd still take out the sheet and think about getting all the other transformers. I'd stare at those tiny pictures and try to imagine how the transformation would work. Sometimes they were much better in my head than in actuality.
They usually only cover 2, maybe three waves of toys at a time, but there were catalog-style inserts for Armada, Energon, Cybertron, I think at least one of the movie lines, and Reveal the Shield. More than package cross-sells at least. I'd love to see a return of box-back-battle illustrations as well.
Yeah the catalogs in the recent toylines have been booklets as opposed to the epic battle/checklist style foldouts. I also would second the epic battle on the package back to return, but it's been replaced with "hey, check out all of the features on this toy!"
Those catalogs were great, as were the ones from other toylines. Good times. The cybertron posters were pretty decent id say.
Probably more than catalogs or package murals, I'd like to see the return of a standard format/size bio & techs card (either clippable from the package, or a separate card like the Japanese do)
I adore all the old artwork, packaging and catalogs but completely understand why it isn't used anymore. The Cybertron planet maps were pretty cool though. Now please enjoy some SCANZ:
Nice scans. Thanks for posting. I never had any G2 stuff, so this is my first seeing their catalogs. For some reason, the theme to Miami Vice just flipped on in my head.
YES! I can't tell you how many Transfoermers I bought....that ended up being less than good, but I bought em cause con-sarn it all they looked cool in the catalogue! Bring these back Hasbro!
There are a bunch of great scans here: http://www.tfarchive.com/toys/catalogues/generationone_catalogues.php Talk about taking me back! These make me feel like a kid again!
